#5 D-man to Pitt

The Pens even without Sid are looking like they have no real weaknesses at the forward position this year. What was made abundantly clear last postseason is that a bottom pairing of Niskanen/Lovejoy is not going to work in playoff hockey.

They'll battle it out over the course of the regular season and have Engelland be the #7 but I'd like Shero to look for a veteran #5 that is capable of playing top 4 minutes if/when injuries occur. With Sid/Staal's contracts up the year after next, the Pens will probably be looking for a contract that is coming off the books next summer.

Who would your team be willing to move at the trade deadline? I'm assuming the Pens would be willing to do a mid draft pick or D-prospect as that is their strength at the moment.

Fire away....

Have Kuba for.... anything. Maybe a powerforward prospect or a goalie prospect.

I'd rather bring in a veteran to fill that role come playoff time. Otherwise, I think Shero should just go with the guys he currently has. No point giving up assets for someone who has just as little experience as the guys we're trying to upgrade.

Just get Campoli for 2 million once he realizes he has no better options.

Greg Zanon for a 3rd? The Wild probably aren't going to the playoffs anyway and we could always use another pick. Zanon would be a beast in the playoffs. Zero offense though, but you couldn't ask for a better example of heart and hustle on the ice and he doesn't afraid of anything.

?? That's the point of the thread. A top 4 capable D-man that is on an expiring contract. Pens have stupid depth on defense but we don't have a true #5.

Sign Caompoli or McCabe or trade for Oduya from Winnipeg, Allen from Carolina or someone like that.

I am sure Spacek could be had reasonably cheap. He can fill that role well and likely would only cost a 3rd/4th or mid tier prospect (Veilleux, Vitale, etc)

You want Cumiskey or Wilson from the Avs?
Low asking price mid to late round picks preferably

Davis Drewiske or Jake Muzzin from the Kings should be available. Looking for a 2nd or a wing prospect.

Beat me to it. I can't think of any other player in the league that's been the recipient of more bruises than Greg Zanon. The guy's only missed 5 games in the last 4 seasons combined. He's only 31 so he's still got plenty of gas left in the tank. Wouldn't mind keeping him as a 3rd pairing guy but we're in need of a more offensive d-man and Zanon doesn't quite fit the bill. Based on how much effort he gives night in and night out, he deserves to be on a contender.

Yes. I wouldn't mind seeing Zanon on the Pens, this would be a good deal for both teams.
