I'm more surprised that Justin Williams and Todd Fedoruk are still practicing with us. Do they still live in the area?

Hack job as usual. Misleading, sensationalistic headline that makes you think Briere is going to throw Richards under the bus when in fact, Briere re-iterated what Richards has said all along, there are many leaders in the room and anyone can stand up and talk. Briere also proved himself to be correct when he said the media in Philly makes a bigger deal out of the captaincy than in any other city he's played in. Keep it up Timmeh, you don't want to ruin your rep by putting out a non-TMZ kind of article.

Definitely agree with this. Briere never called Pronger the de facto captain last year.

The only person that looks like a fool here is Timmy. Especially for referencing the fact that Briere thinks the media overblows the captainship.....then proceeds to prove that statement right.

Does this mean the second-half breakdown and sweep to the Bruins is actually Pronger's fault?

That was the beauty of it but he's too stupid to realize it. It's ok though, if Briere sees it he'll likely be pissed off at it.

Let's all just make it clear:

Quote:
“When you look around the room and the old captains and the name on that board, it would be a tremendous honor, but it's not something I need. I think Chris Pronger felt the same way. Everyone saw Chris as one of our leaders last year.”

Was Pronger the de facto captain?

“Yeah, definitely,” Briere replied. “Richie wore the letter and was the captain but he wasn’t by himself.”
Briere: 'Pronger was one of the captains'

Panidiot: 'PRONGER WUZ TUH CAPTAIN'

Little timmy always had a hard on for Mike. When I see a title of a article like that it just helps me understand better why I dislike most members of the media.

I think we can use this as the basic translation scale for dealing specifically with Timmy P.

It's only sports, so the standard of journalistic integrity is more relaxed, but damn if this isn't irresponsible reporting. It's just bad. He asked a leading question with the phrase defacto captain in it, and when Briere didn't flat out contradict his wording with his answer, he has his headline. Writing like this makes it harder for athletes to be candid and in turn keeps us more out of the loop. Don't get me wrong, there's bigger tragedies in the world, but wow....what a ****** writer...

Not to defend ole' Timmy (who needs Lassie to help him get out of the well), but he may not have written the Headline. Someone else probably did that if it is anything like newspaper... the headline has to fit the space, not necessarily what was written.

I don't think Briere was saying anything that everyone doesn't already know.

Pronger took over as the de facto captain two years ago, they just let Richards keep the C to avoid embarrassing him and to give him a chance to grow into the role. When he didn't, they shipped him out.

Not sure where or how you derive that from his quote. Pay special attention to the part where he says he was the captain. You may also want to consider Timmy's horrific journalistic standards.

Pronger is also on record as saying he was brought in to "help him out." Ultimately he helped ship him out I suppose since Richards didn't shape up as captain literally and figuratively...

What's funny is he insulted the Philly Media and Timmy seemed to breeze by it like nothing was said about him.

And Briere's right, I'd expect that all the players help out and lead the ways they need to. Really the only importance that I see in the NHL of the C and A's is that they're allowed to speak to the officials. That's it.

Quote:
Briere says that the captaincy always seems to be “a big issue” among the media with the Flyers.

“It’s funny, that is the one thing since I have been in Philly, it always seems like it’s a big issue,” Briere said. “Like it’s an important thing for the outside world -- those outside our dressing room.

“But with the players we have here, I don’t see it as a big issue. Richie was the captain, yeah, but he wasn’t the only leader. He wasn’t by himself in the dressing room. There were four or five guys who could have been captain. I never had a letter but I always felt I had a role to play as a leader.”

The big question is whether Pronger’s health factors into the captaincy. Or should it? Peter Forsberg never got to wear the “C” as much on the ice as he should have under coach Ken Hitchcock because of his issues with his feet
It's funny how in the top 2 paragraphs Briere says the captaincy isn't a big deal, and 2 paragraphs later Timmy P is making a big deal about the captaincy.

This is the same crap that I saw recently (probably on Youtube) where a news channel interviewed a little kid about guns and sensationalized when the kid said "when I grow up I want to own a gun." The news stopped there and reported it. A day later they got in deep **** when others found they had cut out the end of the interview. The rest of the interview had the kid saying that he wanted a gun cause he wanted to be a police officer.

Same **** the Philly media does. Here's my opinion on Timmy:
