I remember a kid my girlfriend went to high school with "wrote" a love song for his girlfriend. Turns out he just copied "Far Away" by Nickelback. Then it was released as a single. He tried back-pedaling. "Wow, that's a crazy coincedence. But I wrote it first." Etc. I don't know if I ever gave someone so much **** as that guy.

I used to hate them, but honestly, I've grown to love hating them. They never disappoint in disappointing.

Also, I had no idea CTD were Canadian. Cool deal.

Canada have Devin Townsend and that's really all you need.

Should be your national anthem.

Great Big Sea
IllScarlett
Metric
Michael Bublé
Mother Mother
Neil Young

Our Lady Peace
Sam Roberts Band
Social Code
Steven Page
Sum 41
Tegan and Sara
USS

And that's just off the top of my head.
Bolded indicate artists I would rather have molten lava poured into my ears than hear. You forgot Billy Tallent. Most annoying band ever. And Our Lady Peace is pushing it.

More decent Canadian music:

DJ Champion
Jar
Econoline Crush
Noize Therapy
Bif Naked (sometimes)
The Dayglo Abortions
Skinny Puppy
Front Line Assembly
Facepuller
Strapping Young Lad

Canadian Classic Rock that hasn't been mentioned yet and you'll have shoved down your throat if you live in Canada:

Loverboy
Saga
5 Man Electrical Band (Signs, signs, everywhere a sign...)
Harlequin
Gowan
Kim Mitchell
Max Webster (see above)
The Band

turn me loose

why no respect for Loverboy?

I remember Amy Brown, in 10th grade civics class, invoking their lyrics as though she were quoting the most profound of philosophers: "You know, it really is true; everybody's working for the weekend!"

I can understand why people dislike Arcade Fire (pretentiousness, the singer), but saying that they're below the repetitive, droning, "hard rock" of Nickelback is giving them too little credit. At least they're good musicians...

On topic, I think the only way to please people is using classic bands. Every contemporary band is either too hated (Nickelback) or too obscure. Michael Buble and Metric would get just as much hate as Nickelback.

See here's the issue. None of those "decent" bands have any name recognition, no matter how good they are. Now Foreigner and The Band would be perfect (I've always heard that Loverboy were pretty hated back in the day).

oh no, he who cant be named isnt a singer, being a singer requires you to sing, not blow a dog whistle.

im a very extremely proud canadien for everything we do, how we act, etc but being associated with him makes me wish the direct route from the border to london, could be deemed america. hell id pay america to take it

Jesus do you guys actually have to try listing names of Canadian bands better than Nickelback? Pick any one of the hundreds of alternative/indie bands in Canada and there's about a 99% chance it'll sound better than Chad & his boys.

Anyway I love this video and its top comment

Are you serious? This has turned into a big listing of Canadian music acts, and I'm the first to mention Triumph?

Ridiculous.

I approve this message, though some of these bands would be a borderline traumatic experience if they appeared at the Winnipeg home opener.

Any time Skinny Puppy gets mentioned, it's a good thread.

Re: Nickelback. Sure they're derivative and boring, but I have to admit I never understood all the hate. They're no worse than the rest of the post-grunge/alternative crap on the radio at the moment, IMO.

Honestly, what's the difference between Nickelback and bands like Creed or something? They are literally the same exact thing in terms of music.

I don't hear Creed on the radio.

The hate comes from the fact that they're the most popular of them, and the easiest to make fun of.

The thing is though, Nickelback probably sells more tickets in one show than half of these bands do in a whole tour

Loverboy was already mentioned, so I left them out. And Mike Reno joined the morning crew of Rock 101 radio in Vancouver several months ago, and I didn't want him to get any more press.

Appreciated. Wasn't suggesting Facepuller for the Jets' 2.0 home opener or anything

Y'know, I still don't mind some of their heavier stuff. They've got some decent grooves here and there.

Oh, and to the guy who pointed out that Foreigner wasn't Canadian: My bad. Fixed. For some reason it didn't quote you.
