I think that's in the "So obvious it doesn't need to be said" category. I hope.

I like Nickelback, know quite a few people who also like Nickelback. I don't get the hate
I can understand not liking them, but they are far from terrible.

Well some people complain about how simple, stupid and sex oriented their songs are about, plus their songs are basically created with every same riffs. But i don't get why this band is so hated, i mean their are not worst than SUM41, Blink 182 or other stupid ****.

If you are going that route, add the innovative death metal band Gorguts (Quebec) to the mix.

Ummmmm....

What about Neil Young?... seems like an obvious choice....

Canadian artist?... check
has roots in Winnipeg?... check.
Is actually very good compared to Nickelback?... check
*bonus Is a season ticket holder for an NHL team?... check.

Neil seems to be the guy for me.

Well, him or Death From Above 1979 of course since they are back together now....

I will say, the Nickelback song "Rock Star" is a solid contender for the worst, most putrid piece of music put to record in recent memory. The sound is derivative and hopelessly boring, while the lyrics are the most juvenile, superficial nonsense I can recall outside of certain hip-hop artists like Soulja Boy and Cash Money Millionaires.

Yes, and that reason is that they're easy to make money off of because they have absolutely no personality and therefore nothing to object to.

Fame =/= talent/likability/etc.
Fame = being signed by a big, aggressive record company

ex: Boy bands/most 00s pop rap/ Disney child stars/ Nickelback

A big record company could sell albums for a dying animal if they awarded it the air time and publicity crap bands like Nickelback get.

Modern economics have more or less completely dissolved the link between talent and fame.

Music critic, what a joke of a job. If you think you know what's good and how to make it sound good, find a band, sign em, record em and show everyone. If not, shut up about the best-selling band of the last decade.

The reason people hate Nickelback is because they've been releasing the same damn song with almost guaranteed success for 15 years. It's not a very good song either. It's far from the worst song ever, but still...their best competition for 'worst rock band' disappeared off the face of the planet nearly a decade ago.

Maybe the Jets can get Sir Mix-a-Lot to do a tribute to Dustin Byfuglien.

Nickelback gets the most hate because they're the ones on the pedestal. There are plenty of bands with the same sort of bland sound as them, but no one does it better (or worse, depending on your perspective).

Part of what offends me about Nickelback is that i'm fairly sure that they've never heard of the concept of a guitar solo. It's like they're allergic to creativity and risk.

You can be creative without playing a solo, but they don't do that either. Its the same recycled music. The same riffs, at the same pace, at the same junctures in the songs. There's no real diversity in the music of there's that I've heard. I've actually heard multiple songs played simultaneously that follow each other almost to a tee, its ridiculous.

That and I'm pretty sure they took 3 Doors Down's sound and said "Let's play the exact same thing."
