I love how Detroit alone has put out more great acts than the entirety of Canada, yet we are stuck hearing Journey at the Joe.

Not that I really mind Journey all that much, but give me Iggy Pop any day over them.

I'd also like to add that I personally dislike Nickelback, not just for their repetitive music, but for the sheer arrogance of the band when called out. Someone mashed up "How You Remind Me" and "Someday" to point out how similar they were. One of the band members (I believe the bassist) said that it was because they had their own unique style "like AC/DC." I'm no AC/DC fan, but jesus dude, get your ego in check.

That and I'm pretty sure they took 3 Doors Down's sound and said "Let's play the exact same thing."
"Grrrr Rock" is what my friends and I called it. Creed, Days of the New - they all sound the same and may employ the same singer, in various disguises, to mumble and growl for them.

EDIT: I think Voivod is Canadian too.
Oh cool, someone who knows Voivod too. I'll throw out Annihilator as well.

Only a few people have thrown out the greatest rock band of all time: Rush

Oh and for the sake of this thread:

The leafs have dibs on Metallica.............

We have had a Metallica song as our intro music since....mid 90s? Enter Sandman and now Master of Puppets, plus our new terrible goal song is a Metllica mash up.

so ya, Nickleback sucks, and no Metallica.

I think you're a little biased with that statement

I listen to way more music from Canada than I do from Detroit.

I love how every time Canadian music gets mentioned, all the Canadian music experts jump out of the woodword and a huge argument ensues.

Having said that, Nickelback sucks. And no one mentioned Michael Buble yet, the Sinatra of our day!

Of course he's biased - it's music, not mathematics. We're all biased. You're biased.

He has a good case with Motown, however.

LMAO I saw that when it first aired and I couldn't breathe after it was over. The Elton John song just made it better

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm personally a big fan of Canadian music. First and foremost, French Canadian music. But we make good music here. It gets lost in the sea of American music.

It just rubs me the wrong way when someone says "LOLOLOL I'M CANADIAN AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF WE HAVE ANY GOOD BANDS!!".

It's your culture. Learn about it.

It's completely understandable to have liked Nickelback when they first came out. If you were 10 and they were in your IPOD, I got it.

But at some point you have to let go. The Anti-Nickelback establishment in the music industry isn't a rogue element. It's pretty powerful and vocal.

Hey, in 1989, I listen to the Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. I thought the schtick was funny and he wasnt a bad MC. But sometime around 1993 I realized Will Smith is clearly the worst thing to ever happen to music.

It happens.

Remis, who was down at the MTS Centre taking pics of the new Jets logo gave his 2 cents about the topic of who should perform.

Personally I'd be fine with Rush although they may be a tad too "old" (I wince as I write that). Neil Young, while still in the above "oldies" might be rocker enuf to overcome that label.

I think what it ultimately comes down to is the fact that it is a free concert celebrating one of the biggest weekends in the Peg' so I think more people are going to go for the party, than they are for the band playing.

Oh god I was just going to post the rock throwing thing.

It's weird... Nickleback is HUGE around the world and yet I don't know a single person who is a fan.. EVERYONE rips them, I like a couple of their early songs though.

It's the same thing for just about everything that people are vocal about hating. The haters are always more vocal then the people who like it. They easily have tonnes of fans.

I don't listen to them, but it's pretty childish make it your mission to preach to others your hatred for something.

Nickelback is an instant radio station change for me. On the topic of good Canadian music, don't forget about Matthew Good. Dude is a genius.

People like derivative crap that they can sing along to in traffic.

That is Nickelback's purpose. It was Creed's purpose. It was Default's purpose. It was every other garbage radio rock band's purpose.
