Good fighter, a lot of heart, often injured, if he can make it he will fill Boulton's job, and is bigger and stronger than Glass.

The guy can fight, that's pretty much it. He makes Glass look like Gretzky on the ice. If he stays, hopefully he is the 13th forward and rarely hits the ice.

Not too impressed. The guy fights and that's it. He puts up less points than pretty much any other enforcer in the league.

yeah he never scored more than 1 goal/season. At least Boulton could score some goals !

It's just a try-out. I'd rather see Glass on the ice.

Meh. It's a try-out, if the guys we have can't beat out this goon then by all means he should take their spot.
I feel like this Chevy's way of replacing what Rypien would have brought while still hedging his bet by making it a try out.

If the guys we have can't beat this guy out, that's not a good sign.

I don't understand why we got a guy who does NOTHING but fight when there are couple of (better) fighters still on the market that can actually play as well, namely Adam Mair and Brad Winchester.

Hopefully he's a camp body and nothing more.

I just don't understand the purpose of wasting a lineup spot on a guy like Koci, who will get less than a dozen shifts the entire game and is basically out there to fight. If you really want a scrapper out there, at least use a guy who can play a bit.

EDIT: Running Riot, you took the words out of my mouth.

My point is this whole "fighting by appointment" garbage, and the ridiculous and completely incorrect notion of a heavyweight protecting other players is outdated and archaic.

Very successful teams have proven time and again you do not need someone on your roster who just fights. It is a complete waste of a spot. Team toughness is what keeps other teams honest. You look at teams like past Flames squads (as much as I hate to say it). Have hard nosed, contributing players who can also chuck em if need be. That's why, from a completely hockey-centric POV it sucks to lose Rypien. He was tough as nails but also could play.

When you see what's happened this off season, the NHL should be pushing harder to get this type of player out of the game.

Training camp invitees are all part of the business. A large amount of the time it's just a way to maintain good relationships with agents.

Koci (and his agent) appreciate the chance to come in and skate with NHL level players and in turn Koci will keep the intensity level from sagging early in camp.

With the three recent consecutive deaths in the NHL, all being enforcers of some type or other and the increased focus and questioning of that role (by more than just Gary Lawless), who has the stomach for that any more? Wasted try-out spot IMO and a potentially wasted roster spot on top of that.

The team would be better off focusing on developing a top 5 PP and making the opposition pay in the win column with a few extra goals IMO.

If you're going to dress a tough guy, he's got to be able to play 6-8 minutes a game and kick in 5-10 goals IMO... not just go cro-magnon on the other team's meathead and get tossed.

Brad Winchester meets those needs. I'm not sure why we haven't looked at him over Koci?

I have no inside information but I'm fairly certain Winchester doesn't have to consider a tryout contract. I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up with a 1-way before the season is a month old. A month ago it was rumored that he'd be signing with Vancouver.

It's an invite to a training camp...this happens every year with NHL teams. No need to start checking for the sky to be falling on TSNE.

Don Cherry likes Koci and Ivanans, they don't play like Europeans, and for some reason seem to enjoy what they do. Koci will be give you 100 percent heart and hussle.
