Tim Thomas

I thought his 2009 season was a fluke one.

Jonathan Ericsson...thought he had #1 potential but minimum serviceable 2/3. I was so confident I almost dropped $300+ on his game worn jersey.

I was extremely drunk one night and saw Pierre Luc LeBlond make a beautiful pass that led to a goal. I claimed he would score 15 points next season. lol

Bruins had 5 Cups before the 2010 season. 5th Cup was 71-72.

I thought Gagner was going to be the future first line center of the rebuilding oilers. I also thought the same of Brassard

I wasn't one of them but a lot of Leafs fans and people around the NHL were wrong about Alex Steen.

I remember being pissed that the Blues took Pietrangelo over Filatov in '08.

At the start of the 10/11 season I claimed Iginla would score only 15 goals and 45 points.

Boy was I wrong

I thought Bergfors was in the Devils' long term plans, and was expected to play on the first line with Parise and Zajac for many years.

A month later he was traded to Atlanta, and now he's bounced around to three teams within a year, each of which has benched him repeatedly, he can't stick in anybody's top 6, and he is a serious risk to wash out of the league entirely if he doesn't put it together again.

I don't want to say just yet I was wrong about Grabovski, but another year like last year and I can say that.

Someone told me Alexander Daigle was the "next one" when I was like 11 and I believed it, up until his 2nd year in the league.

Amazing thread...mostly because I went back to some of the threads from three or four years ago...some gems:

I wanted Mike Komisarek on the Bruins

I saw the long contract fiasco becoming an issue

I called the Penguins winning the cup

I always was too high on Staal, and hated Gagner (not awful in hindsight)

No but seriously, how overrated was Gagner back in the day? Me taking Iginla over him?...

Called Therrien being a waste in Pittsburgh...

Ahh, took Hedman over Stamkos...

Actually enjoy my ranking of Toews back in the day

Likely the most embarassing:

I bashed on Datsyuk/Zetterberg

Carey Price. I though the Habs drafting him instead of Brule was a HUGE mistake.

Which, I guess, means I was also wrong about Gilbert Brule. I expected him to be a superstar.

Most amazing quote in that thread has to be SK13...

5 or more. If he wants them.
That post is before the 2008-2009 season... 1 more year of Lidstrom and this guy nailed it.

Never thought Lidstrom had another 5 solid years back than, but the dude keeps trucking.

Good call SK13, impressive.

I thought Grabs was just a soft, moderately skilled player who'd be inconsistent. Glad I was wrong

I thought Rob Niedermayer would be a first line NHLer

I thought Hannu Toivonen would be a legit NHL starter

Lars Eller, although I still hold out some hope that he becomes a good 2C or so. He produced like a giant-sized D-man last year.

Same. And maybe I'm alone here, but I'm actually a little disappointed in Crosby so far. After his 120 pt season, I thought he'd be scoring a lot more, winning Art Ross trophies yearly, winning the Hart nearly every season. And while he's been consistantly great, he hasn't won either award since. Yes, there's been injuries etc. But I think that while he's probably the best player in the league, its not by the margin I'd expected. I honestly thought he'd be putting up 140+ points some years, maybe even 150. I mean, he'd already done 120, I just expected his career to keep going upward.

True his game has improved in other areas besides just offense, but he doesn't seem to be dominant in the way that generational talents of the past have been such as Gretzky, Lemieux, or even "bubble" players like Jagr.

I thought Zherdev would be an elite franchise winger, surpassing Nash in short order. (lol)

Thought Commodore was primed to break out as a legitimate top pairing D-man, being a staple of the CBJ blue-line for years.

Yeah, there was even more hype about Daigle becoming a superstar than Crosby, but we all know how that turned out.

Prucha
Lundmark

Kloucek and Novak but I'm not sure serious injuries weren't part of the problem.

And I hope I wasn't wrong about Del Zotto.

I think he was just as dominate last season before his concussions. He was on a mad tear. He had 66 points in only 41 games last year and was a +20. That's pretty impressive. 66 points in 82 games is great for most players. He had it in exactly half the season and didn't look like he was going to slow down. You have to remember, he was only 23 years old last season. That's pretty damn impressive.
