Just saw this article posted courtesy of PCanuck on the Jets board. According to this, the Preds got the most "bang for the buck" getting 2.02 points for every $1 million in player salaries. Along with a record number of sellouts, the ownership must be very happy:

Quote:
The Stanley Cup playoffs begin this week to sort out the league's best team, but according to a Bank of Montreal report released Tuesday, the Nashville Predators are the "Hockey Cents" champions of 2011-12.

BMO Capital Markets deputy chief economist Douglas Porter based this on an analysis of how successful National Hockey League teams were in the regular season in proportion to the amount of money they spent on players.

The Predators were tops for being able to earn 2.02 points for every $1 million (all figures in U.S. dollars) in player salaries applicable to the league's salary cap.

Teams earn two points for every game they win, one point for losing in overtime or a shootout, and no points for losing before the 60 minutes of regulation time in a game are over.

Have you guys noticed Sombrero Guy at the games you go to? He's a good friend of mine and I was just curious how prevalent he really is.

Just wanted to throw out there that you can now vote for the final cover of NHL '13. Each team has one player and the Preds get Pekka. I think you can just go to NHL.com and check it out.

Pekka has made it to the next round in the NHL 13 cover vote. He takes on Patrick Sharp next. Voting for his bracket starts May 3rd.

pretty brutal putting Stamkos vs Malkin in the 1st round...

if Rinne can get by Sharp I like his chances in the following round vs either Eberle or Tavares

From the article: "Since 1997, Metro and the state have given the hockey team $107.8 million through a contract that has been renegotiated once with more generous incentives."

What am I missing?

The city owns the building. The city is responsible for a management fee and a significant portion of the operating costs, including operational losses. The city doesn't give the team money for running the hockey team. It pays the Preds subsidiary, Powers Management, to run the building and places money into an account for the hired manager to cover the operations of its building. That amount is capped under the current agreement after being uncapped from 1996 until 2007. There are several options the city has to change what it pays, all of which uncap their financial exposure to operational expenses/losses of the building. Any operational expenses or losses above what the city places into the account are the responsibility of the arena manager ... the Preds.

Then there is the incentive fee. It is structured where once the non-hockey arena generated revenue benchmark is surpassed (based on 2006 revenue levels), a split of the next $4mil in revenues occurs ... 50/50 between the city and team. The amount the team can receive is capped while Metro's isn't. It's a performance bonus for maximizing use of the government owned building that did not exist in the old lease.

Hockey events account for approximately 1/3 of the 140 or so events at the building. They generate five times the sales tax receipts as non-hockey events for Metro.

Money "given" to the team portrays that the team has full discretion over its spending and that the operational losses the city covers is then an additional expense for Metro. That simply is not the case.

I would probably do that for Bergeron, probably not Krejci and only if blum gets his head out of his butt. Would rather due blum and wilson for bergeron. Still wish we had done that Kessel deal a few years ago.

Smith played extremely well this morning in a 3-2 overtime win over Kazakhstan. I can't remember if they said he got in at 10:30 last night or 10:30 this morning (Helsinki time), but it didn't show. The kid does all the little things right and is a relentless forechecker. I have a feeling he'll be back on top next fall.

Erat with a goal and an assist for the Czechs in a 6-0 romp over Italy. Josi and Kostitsyn play their first games tomorrow.

More updates on Preds at the Worlds:
Josi (SUI) - 17:51 TOI, 3 SOG in 4-2 loss to France
A. Kostitsyn (BLR) - 17:41 TOI, 1 A, 2 SOG, 2 PIM, -3 in 5-1 loss to Slovakia
S. Kostitsyn (BLR) - 13:57 TOI, 1 A, 2 SOG, -2 in 5-1 loss to Slovakia
Hornqvist (SWE) - 16:22 TOI, 4 SOG, 2 PIM, +1 in 4-0 win over Italy

In Helsinki, the US (Craig Smith) got a huge break today when the da Costa brothers stepped up for a pair of goals to lift France over Switzerland. On the flip side of that, Switzerland (Roman Josi) now needs at least a point against Slovakia to stay in contention for a spot in the medal rounds, joining Canada (1st), Finland (2nd), and either the US or the Slovaks. Meanwhile, Belarus (Kostitsyn brothers) is all but out, now looking to avoid relegation in the squad's final two tilts with France and Canada, respectively. They might not need the points, though: Kazakhstan has to beat Finland in regulation to pass them in the standings, and Belarus would have to lose both games in regulation.

In Stockholm, the Swedes (Patric Hornqvist) will get a couple of days off after a sound victory over Italy and will look to wrap up second place in the group with a game against Latvia on Tuesday. The Czechs (Martin Erat) have a chance to catch them, but would have to get at least an overtime win against first-place Russia. Latvia, Germany, and Norway are all vying for the last spot in the medal rounds. Norway and Latvia both have last-place Denmark still to play, and the Norwegians can all but wrap up that fourth spot by going to 10 points with a win over Germany tomorrow. Denmark is in a corner, but so long as they can salvage a point out of their games with Latvia and Norway, they should pass Italy on goal differential and stay in the top flight for 2013. (Italy losing to Russia being as close to a certainty as you can get.)

It's going to be an interesting few days of hockey in Scandinavia.

Josi - 18:54 TOI, -1 in 1-0 loss to Slovakia
Erat - 16:41 TOI, 3 SOG, 2 PIM, -1 in 2-0 loss to Russia
Smith - 16:00 TOI, 1 A, 1 SOG, +1, 4-0 on face-offs in 5-0 win over Finland
S. Kostitsyn - 14:21 TOI, 3 SOG in 2-1 loss to France
A. Kostitsyn - 15:56 TOI, 1 SOG in 2-1 loss to France

After Finland was upended by the U.S., things settled down a bit in Helsinki. Slovakia also beat Switzerland, meaning the Swiss won't be advancing to the medal rounds. The Belarusian offense never materialized, and with one game left to play, they have scored the second-fewest in the entire tournament (10; Italy has 6). France beating Belarus is nice and all, but unfortunately, the 2-1 final means that France would have to beat Slovakia by a score of 9-0 to get into the medal rounds. Lowly Kazakhstan was officially relegated today with a 4-1 loss to Finland. They needed a regulation win to stay up.

Italy also needed a regulation win, and also failed to get it, falling 4-0 to Russia in Stockholm earlier today. Denmark ended Latvia's bid for the medal rounds with a 2-0 win in the preceding game, ensuring their survival in the top flight with three points. Norway blasted Germany 12-4 yesterday, and coupled with Latvia's loss, the Norwegians are in the knockout rounds. Expect a quick exit, though; Norway has conceded 17 goals, the most of any of the 8 advancing teams (unless France pulls off a miracle). They'll have a chance to move up, though, when they play Denmark. They will need a loss from the Czechs (who lost 2-0 to Russia yesterday), who play Germany.

Tomorrow sees 12 teams in action, with three games at each site.

Helsinki:
Canada-Belarus
Slovakia-France
USA-Switzerland

A U.S. win ensures that they play Finland in the first round. If the U.S. loses and Slovakia wins, Finland plays the Slovaks and the Yanks play Canada.

Stockholm:
Norway-Denmark
Czech Republic-Germany
Sweden-Latvia

Russia ran the table to take first place, and the Swedes are safely in second. A Czech win secures a CZE-SWE first round match-up, while a Czech loss with a Norwegian win means the Czechs play the Russians.

There have been 201 players who have worn a Predators sweater per http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/d...s.php?tmi=7024

I want to make a top 50 list to get ahead of the lists which will come in 2 seasons when the Preds have their 15th anniversary; 27 forwards, 18 defensemen, 5 goalies.

Anyone interested in helping?

Not really been looking at the stats and looking at goals per game, points per game and PIMS per games because I would like to see a comparison between the expansion guys and the playoff Preds.

I'm looking at creating a top 50 and make a clean number I created 27 forwards 18 d-men, 5 goalies so we can have a nice list of players to be pared down to 23. Goal and d-men are almost a lock on the 23, the lower end d-men on the 50 are a challenge. Forwards have been a pain in the ass
