Honorable mention to coach Mike Keenan. He ripped a few dressing rooms apart in his day.

Eric Belanger wasn't well liked in the locker room in Carolina, nor did he like the role he was playing here. It's weird because I've never heard of him being an issue before or since his time here. Guess he just didn't like being stuck behind Staal and Brind'Amour each playing 20ish minutes a game apiece.

scraps? lol

Mark Recchi was a notorious locker room lawyer early in his career but apparently grew out of it.

To add insult to injury... the Devils went 27-10 after trading him and the Stars went 10-27.

Gotta love it. I guess all the "experts" here actually are in the locker rooms so they can give their opinion as fact.

It's tough to tell for sure, as many have said, but for Montreal I immediately think of Sergei Samsonov and Mikhail Grabovski.

Maybe not "cancers", but certainly had very negative effects on the team locker rooms. Kovalev was also quite up-and-down.

With some players there has been so much discussion about it, both in the media and from ex-teammates, that it's fairly easy to point out.

Shane Corson and Darcy Tucker in Toronto, or the aforementioned Richards and Carter in Philadelphia, would be obvious examples of this where the dirty laundry was made fairly public.

A locker room cancer isn't necessarily someone disliked. On the contrary, he is liked.. Partially. The real problem is, they are divisive players that split the locker room in clans.

It's sometimes very situational, because it depends on the player's mentality, maturity and his entourage.

I'd say Ribiero was such divisive player while with the Habs. He created his little clik on players who were best buddies and had little respect for others.

I am happy to know he changed after being traded.

Heatley wasn't a cancer, he was well liked before he asked for a trade. Richards and Carter were also well liked, good dudes, Holmgren just wanted to get a crisper, more focused group. Richards wouldn't have been dealt, I guarantee, if he wasn't captain. They would have loved to keep him as an A even, but stripping him of the C would just cause too much of a rift. Richards has to mature a little before he becomes a teams leader, but by all accounts he is a good guy, gets along with everyone, and is someone who would still be one of Phillys most important players in a perfect world. I know less regarding Carter but Richards certainly wasn't dealt because he was a cancer.

Also, could someone explain the Recchi issues? I didn't really see him as a young player.

On the Isles note, Yashin was a cancer that thank god does not seem to be coming back. I would also think the DiPi and his contract/injuries/non elite play have not helped lately.

Rhett Warrener did a segment on the FAN960 and was pretty honest about Phaneuf. He said that Dion was a distraction in the dressing room who refused to work on his defensive game. The two vets (Warrener and Regehr) tried to help him but he flat out was not interested in developing his defensive game. As long as he was scoring, he didn't care.

He didn't bring up specific examples (obviously, that's the kind of guy Rhett is) but I think we got a general idea of what Dion was like in the Flames dressing room.

Pretty much this

I mean the guy was on 4 cup winning teams.....how much of a cancer could he have been?

Leafs coach Ron Wilson?

Didnt he "win" a players poll about the coach they would least like to play for?

Pronger was loved in St Louis, Anaheim and is loved and considered as the best leader in the locker room in Philadelphia. He had issues with Edmonton and Hartford. In Edmonton, I guess he just didn't fit, and he asked for a trade, in Hartford, well he was like 18.

You do realize that Luongo was chosen as captain, skirting the rules, because he was considered the most influential leader in the dressing room, right?

I didn't know they let fans in to the locker room. Unless you mean that you were talking to the locker rooms cooling devices.
cuz that would be weird...

OP seems to be confusing "locker room cancer" and "pest on the ice."

I have no clue who is on the Bruins, they have a pretty great locker room with guys like Looch, Thornton, Ference, etc. I hope Pouliot isn't he just seems like that kind of guy. Probably because he was a Hab.

Any Habs/Wild fans know anything about him in the locker room?

Dion Phaneuf has been confirmed a locker room cancer by people who were in the same locker room as him.
