Yaroslavl HC Lokomot Plane Crashes

http://rt.com/news/passenger-plane-russia-reports-005/

Josef Vasicek is on the team and Brad McCrimmon is the head coach.

Other former NHLers include Pavol Demitra, Ruslan Salei, and Karlis Scrastins. Obviously the other deaths are no less tragic.

This is horrible. Felt it deserved its own thread.

Big Joe

Horrible news.... Hopefully some people missed the flight.

Jan Marek and Stefan Liv were pretty good KHL players.....

Marek led the KHL in goals in 2009 and Liv was a pretty good goaltender

This is shocking to say the least. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I just have no words.

This is the offseason from hell.

There have been a few cases, but this one is by far the most recent and strikes the closest to home. I'm hoping for word that Joe wasn't on the flight.

This is by far the biggest sports-related plane crash since the Marshall Football team crash in the 70s. Quite a few more notable pro ones before that including an entire Italian Champion soccer team in the late 40s.

What an offseason... no words really, other than I hope some people got stuck in traffic and missed the flight.

NHL.com said 1 survived but didn't see who it was.

Reportedly Alexander Galimov is the lone survivor amongst the passengers. Team spokesman said all main roster players and 4 from the youth team were onboard, but there are some unconfirmed reports that Ruslan Salei was not on the flight and was meeting the team at their destination.

Riley Armstrong, brother of Colby, was not on the flight as previously speculated.

It is so friggin surreal when you look at some of the names on that team, guys that you've watched play for years, maybe forgot about them since they're not on our radar as much anymore.
It's a sick feeling, that's all I can say.

RIP Vasicek.

If I could, I would change my name to Vasicek 2nd Pick to honor your time here.

What horrible, tragic, sad news.

It sure has been a rough last few months for the hockey community. It can stop at anytime now.

I can only imagine what's going through Jeff O'Neill's mind right now. Teammates for 4 years with Big Joe and he's deathly afraid of flying. Just an absolute tragedy.

This is rough... I'm taking this pretty hard, I'm not gonna lie. Big Joe was one of my favorite Canes of all time...
