If he is available, I wont be surprised if Sather is intrested. He took a chance with several young players before. He is young and has potential and only 23, and is a centre with skill.

Yea I totally agree. If we have the chance to get a young player with potential for very cheaply, we should do it. Too bad we did not keep Rico Fata. Sather likes these types, high risk high reward, so I wont be surprised if Sather gets a few more kids in the system.

Yea If he becomes an UFA, tell him to sign with the Rangers. He would get a chance to play. He can help the wolfpack and can get called up if me plays well.

I don't get how Novoseltsev and Zigomanis -- for free -- are "high risk". They're potentially high reward type of players, but how are they high risk?

The risk is that they can stink and we wont be able to get anything in a trade.

but if it only cost us $$ who cares if we are 'stuck' with them...you can just let them rot in the minors till their contracts expire if they don't work out

Maybe not this year, and maybe not next year, but someday Zigomanis will be a star. The rangers could use him and he will develop into an all-star. He will help the rebuilding process.

How's the Lincoln Tunnel traffic going to be tonight? What are the lottery numbers?

I sincerely doubt this. He may play well in the AHL, but I have never seen anything in this guy's game to make me think he'll stick in the NHL. For one, his skating is very suspect. Zigomanis just doesn't do it for me, and like many of the other Canes "prospects" the past few years he just doesn't stand out.

EDIT: Besides Brad Fast, that is...

i disagree with my canes brethren. he was never given a chance at the nhl level. i know his stats say he has played a bunch of games - but he has never played more than 5 minutes in any nhl game save one or two 2 seasons ago. he had poor linemates as well. im not saying he will be star, but a solid 2/3 center is hardly out of the question. he has scored well at every level till now, and he hasnt had a good shot yet. the canes (lowest scoring team these last few years) have no business giving up on this kid, and the rags would do well for jumpimg on him. matt cullen just got zigo's spot - but im certain zigo has potential to at least be equal to cullen, i think he will easily surpass him.

So, you're willing to let them rot in the minors and fill a roster spot with a player not in the organization's future? That sounds like more than a waste of money.

If a player is worth taking a risk on, fine. But to argue that it's only money--even with a younger player--is exactly the same trap this organization is just beginning to dig itself out of.

spending like 1.5 mill over 2 seasons or something like that compared to spending 8 or 9 mill a season for holik is a tremendous step in the right direction. you have to spend money, like it or not, might as well spend it on a possible future. id rather them throw it at someone like zigo instead of vets like rucinsky or some of the othher guys they might consider. you cant expect them to stop spending all together - they have to field a team, thats why nylander got signed.

If he was a UFA, maybe, but the article that Balej20 posted says he's an RFA. $1.5Mil, a 2 year commitment and compensation to Carolina for a 23 year prospect who doesn't appear to have the potential upside of many of the young guys in our organization? No thanks.

Yea but if we got a chance to get a young player for cheap, we should do it. Maybe it will work out, maybe it wont. Some good players have be had for cheap in the past that were young that have turned into something. If they stink, then the player can be used for depth for the Wolfpack or dealt for something we can use.
