Own personal opinion but to me it would seem like a waste of time to announce he will be back for training camp day one....just common sense tells me that.

Maybe he's retiring (I doubt it). He's probably going to be back later than expected.

I heard a nasty rumor that he's going to be announcing his early retirement...

I'll be pretty bummed out of that's what happens.

Hope that's not the case but I wouldn't be surprised. He's still just a kid you don't want to mess yourself up for the rest of your life like that. He's got enough money to last him the rest of his life if he plays his cards right and he always has the option of getting back into the league if he gets better.

An athlete as generational as Crosby isn't going to retire because he can't shake a concussion over half a year.

If Dipietro, the NHL's worst hockey player and starting goaltender, continues to rehab for years in order to pursue his dream of playing hockey, Crosby would AT LEAST do the same.

Let's use some logic here folks. It's going to be an update on the concussion situation and a rough idea of when he thinks he'll be back. Chances are he'll take most of the season to make sure he's perfectly fine.

and if you use common sense you'd know that is false. He'd sit out at least this year before deciding on retirement (and no, that's not going to be the announcement either). He's not itching to retire like the rest of us.

I have to agree with the idea that him announcing his retirement before the season even begins just seems off. I guess there is a chance of that being what he announces, but it's more likely that he is just wanting to give an update (which likely won't be much of an update at all).

"I've been able to work out, but still have some post-concussion symptoms. My goal is to return at some point this season. When the doctors say that I can play, I will play."

1. He feels a whole lot better, has been working out, but is not quite 100% yet
2. Won't return until he's 100%
3. Very confident he'll be back to 100% and will be back with the Pens
4. Doesn't have a timetable for when that will be

I'm just about 100% certain all of the above points will be made.

He has been skating regularly and he will be doing some skating/on-ice workouts this week in Pittsburgh.

Things that will not happen:
1.) Crosby announces his retirement
2.) Crosby announces he's taking the entire year off hockey and won't even attempt a comeback until 2012-2013 season

Things that will happen:
1.) Crosby announces that he's recovering, but is still not 100%.
2.) Crosby announces he will not return until he's 100%.
3.) Crosby announces that there's no definitive timetable to his return.
4.) Crosby answers some random questions from the media with far more patience than he should.

I agree with the people saying he's just going to be addressing the media about not being ready for training camp and gives no timeline still. No chance he announces his retirement or that he's 100% and ready to go.

Obviously. He has a persistant but probably recoverable condition at this stage it's not life threatening. Unlike say, Jiri Fischer where we all knew it pretty much was a retirement conference.

He too wants to sign a big deal with Bauer and will give 109 (one more than Ovie) sets of hockey equipment to kinds in Pittsburgh and Nova Scotia?

I'll trade him jobs. He can go give elderly people baths and I can sit in the press box with headaches and watch my teammates play.

Honestly, I'd rather him take the entire year off and make sure he's ok. Or at least come back for the playoffs while we use his cap space to our advantage
As a rangers fan this is what I expect and hope for as well. I really didn't like Sid earlier in his career but he's just too damn good to not respect at this point. As such, and as a fan of the sport, I think it would be terrible for Sid to push too early and endanger the quality of his career. If he does come back, I'll be rooting for him to be 100% of the Sid who was so sick to watch early last year and think it would be a great story to come back for the playoffs and dominate, as long as its not against NYR. Would remind me of my all-time favorite, Foppa, coming back in the post-season.

Hopefully Sid is just making a personal statement to say "look, I'm here, I'm working out and I want to go but I'm not going to until I'm 100% ready" and not saying he's ready for opening night (would be a mistake, IMO) or that he expects to miss any specific amount of time... just that he'll be back when he's able.

Edit: I don't think there is any chance of him announcing his retirement. Why would he? COULD this end up, eventually, being career ending? Its impossible to say no, but even if it did, why would a 24 year old world class athlete not keep working out, skating and give himself a year or two before deciding at 24 that there's no way he could ever play again? Even if he had to miss a couple of full seasons, I can't see him making a retirement announcement at this point in time. If he misses this full season, can't come back in time for next year's opener and still doesn't feel ready a few months into THAT season, I could see it, but it really makes no sense NOW. I think any retirement rumors are being generated by trolls and haters. Sid is probably just doing this to stop the wild speculation for now and show the fans that he's working and looking forward to coming back once he's ready.

He's going to announce that he is taking his career to Toronto, to play along with Parise and Weber next season.
