I doubt there will be anything new. But him having a press conference kind of ups the interest. My guess, he won't be back until he's 100% and my guess is that is not until February-March.

He will take a year off.

Of course it won't be retirement, but this waiting game has to end.

It's a full year or no year.

No news, he still has symptoms and will be back when they subside. No time table will be given except he is a few months away.

Why? We don't have Peter Forsberg to obsess over every other week, might as well be Sid.

It'd be ridiculous for him to take a whole year off at this point(Unless a neurologist told him to). What if he starts feeling really good in December ?"Well, I've never felt better for the last month...but I said I'll sit out the season in September, and dangit, I'm gonna do just that"

This thread is depressing me.

I remember when they first announced that he had a mild concussion and he was expected to be out for a week. 9 months later he's still not back.

The wierdest part is that neither of the hits looked overly bad at the time. Just unfortunate physics apparantly.

Yep...though I don't know how much of a Q&A session will exist.

I expect it'll be along the lines of 'I'm progressing, but not symptom free, and I won't return to playing until I'm 100%'.

Anyone saying it's an 'all or nothing' deal is kididng themselves. He's not going to be ready for the start of the season, that seems almost like a given right now...that doesn't mean that he's going to shut it down for the entire year. He may return in November...or March...who knows. If he does miss the entire year I'd expect him to hold out for as long as possible before making it 'official'. That certainly won't happen on September 7th.

From a PR perspective, they wouldn't schedule a press conference if he were expected to play midseason, that news would come in a release from pens organization.

The pens organization stated that they would neither confirm nor deny retirement.

Translation, year off to recoup...reconsider.

Or...

Announcing he's assuming a front office position due to injuries sustained.

with a player like Crosby(he is the only one of his kind) you take it as slow as possible....If the doctor says a month you take 2.......Hes young and he is the franchise no point in rushing him back....Look at what happend to savard....

Man in the winter classic when crosby was hit it didnt look that bad that he would be out this long......thats crazy as much as I dislike the pens The game of hockey wont be the same without crosby....

Retirement to free cap space in order to not tie the Penguins hands. Regular season tickets are sold out so no point in rushing back. He will come out of retirement july of next year.

It was the same when Wayne left. The game will be fine. Who wears the C when Sid is gone and Gino comes back?

The dislike for him isn't personal and without him Wings-Pens games would be less entertaining. The battles between him and Z were intense. Hope to see him this season.

DAMN YOU HOFFA.
Hoffa's alive and well. Haven't you noticed him behind the bench as the coach of the Nashville Predators?

I will say this though, if this press conference is to announce he is returning at camp Day 1 or for the season opener I will lose respect for him and quite a bit. It's just not necessary to have that kind of announcement.

I think he'll start the year wearing CCM Crosby-light gear and maybe say that he's in The Dark Knight Rises.

This is exactly what will happen.
