Burke Touches On All Things Maple Leafs Ahead Of Camp

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=375250

One of the things he touched on, was that there was one open spot on the roster and it touched on a debate I had with a friend, who will make the team this year, I like Frattin but is it Kadri?

Quote:
"If you've noticed we've left one spot open, we want some competition for one of the forward spots," said Burke. "Whether that's Matt Frattin or Nazem Kadri or Joe Colborne or whomever, we do want to have some competition for a spot."

Frattin is better suited for a bottom six role and and he's a lot more matured. Burkie and RW where very impressed with his audition last year, it's gonna be an interesting camp. My guess is Frattin takes the spot and Kadri and Colborne become the call up guys when injuries happen but it all comes down to who wants it more in camp

It'll be interesting for sure.

My guess is still Kadri.

Frattin gets the spot imo

MacArthur struggles and gets traded + Gunnarsson (or other dman) for a better one

Kadri comes up and replaces Mac

*my bold prediction

People keep saying Frattin starts in the A, but every time Burke opens his mouth it becomes clear, the brass thinks he can stick. A good camp and...

I always thought Frattin was going to start with the Leafs (Even though its not comfirmed). Everytime I hear Burke mention him it shows that he thinks he is ready. I think he will be playing 20+ games forsure this season.

I also agree with Kadri replacing Mac this season.

Physically, Frattin was ahead of Kadri and Colborne when we last saw them all. We'll need to see how the younger guys look at camp.

by quite a bit, i think the spot is between Frattin and Kadri ... Colborne wont take it imo .. he needs more AHL time

Even though everybody has known this to be the case for some time, I'm a little surprised Burke would come out and say there's really only one spot open. He did backtrack after, but I'm not sure getting that specific about roster spots was the best idea, if the plan is to promote internal competition.

Burkie spreading it thick on tsn

Never have spent to the Cap, BS has about 5 or 6 million on the Marlies last year, that would have put them over the Cap.

Forwards size up front is comparible to Stars on Ice, Scotty Hamilton would be a power forward on the Leafs.

And the speel goes on. Oh! well I've seen and heard it before.

I think Kadri will get that spot. I just think that the Leafs need the third line to not just be a checking one. The Leafs need that line to be a threat offensively.

This is the 3rd year in a row that he's pimped his D . I really hope he's right this year.

Yeah, and it doesn't hurt his cause that it was better than any one of Kadri's 30 Leaf appearances

Sounds great except I don't for a second believe that both of Orr and Lombardi are ready to start this season. Plus there can often be an injury or two in the pre-season that temporarily opens up another spot. I only count 10 surethings to be on the forwards' roster to start the season:

Grabovski
MacArthur
Kulemin
Kessel
Connolly
Lupul
Armstrong
Bozak
Rosehill
Brown

A lot of teams would be over the cap if they included their AHL players, what exactly is your point again???

I still like Kadri a lot but this is very true. Frattin looked more ready in that short audition.

Orr is fine. He could have played at the end of last year, Burke said so himself, but they chose to rest him to make sure he was 100% good to go, which he is. Lombardi I agree is probably not a go yet.

I really do have lots of faith in our D this year, mainly because I think Schenn will take several strides forward this season, and our depth on offense will serve us well. I just hope Reimer and Gus are up to the task, and we can finally make the playoffs. I think Macarthur will get dealt for a Versteeg-esque package of prospects and picks as soon as Kadri establishes himself as a top-6 forward, whether that's this year, or next year. I think Kadri will make the team as our 3rd line LW. Our Marlies team should be fun to watch too, with prospects like Blacker, D'amigo, Colborne, Frattin, Gardiner, Mueller, Caputi. Plus we finally have our own first round pick.

His point is to say Burke sucks, but good luck trying to figure out how his post rationalizes that.

His point was that Burke was full of crap when he said he never spent to the cap . Sending money down to open up cap space doesn't mean he never spent to the cap .

Lombo should be back for November, you don't wanna rush the guy. If he comes back he'll add a jolt of speed into our lineup.

Hahah what a load of crap.

Literally anyone can just throw that out there and be 'correct'. If that 10% takes an entire year, he can quote that there was some issues.

What a joke that is.

Let me clean up my grammatical errors so people dont get too touchy.

Luke and Drew are represented by the same firm. DOUGHTY AND SCHENN (for the grammactically challenged) are in constant contact with each other and seeing what the general market is and seeing if they can set a market price for the future.

My mistake on not making it crystal clear and leaving room for misinterpretation.

There is absolutely no rush from either side.
