Quote:
Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they will host the 2011 Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, British Columbia, beginning on Sunday, September 11th. For the second consecutive year, the Vancouver Canucks and the city of Penticton will host the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Tournament: a round-robin tournament, featuring prospects from the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets from September 11-15.

“We are excited to host the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Tournament in Penticton again this year,” said Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis. “The city of Penticton showed tremendous support for last year’s event and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to return to this great hockey city.”

“This tournament last year produced an economic impact of $1.8 million and not only showcased our beautiful community and state-of-the-art facility but also exposed the residents of the Okanagan to NHL caliber hockey. The caliber is fast, hard-hitting and intense,” said City Councilor and Committee Chair Andrew Jakubeit.

The Vancouver Canucks Young Stars tournament will begin on September 11th and will feature a number of notable NHL prospects from the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets. The 2010 Young Stars Tournament featured 20 players who dressed in NHL games during the 2010-11 season, including Mikael Backlund, Lance Bouma, Jordan Eberle, Benn Ferriero, Cam Fowler, Taylor Hall, Brandon McMillan, Brandon Mashinter, Magnus Paajarvi, Chris Tanev and Aaron Volpatti.

Teriffic! The tournament was pretty fun to watch last year, can't wait to see it again. And nice that Winnipeg is joining the fun. Didn't realize last year's tournament already had so many NHL alumni.

Hm, so the Jets take the place of the Ducks then? Would be nice to head up for a few days to check it out.

This is perfect, I'll be driving to Calgary from the island right smack in the middle of this. Definitely moving around some plans to be there for a game.

So I don't think I can go up for the whole tournament so I may just go up for the first day or two. If I were to try and avoid staying at a hotel (saving costs) and just sleeping in my car, or something, are there any tips? Camp grounds?

Rodin will be there I would imagine.

Archibald, Erixon, Polasek, Sauve, Connauton, Jensen, Lack, Iilahti, Andersson, Anthony, Friesen, Rai, Honzik, Grenier, Corrado, Tommernes, Westerholm's?, Hannay, Schneider, Tochkin, Ellington..

I'm not sure on Hodgson or Schroeder. We actually might see them and/or Sweatt and Tanev there... or not.

Potential lines?

Sweatt- Hodgson- Rodin
Anthony- Schroeder- Jensen
Westerholm- Westerholm- Archibald
Schneider- Friesen- Grenier
Subs: Tochkin, Rai, others (walk ons)

Erixon- Tanev
Sauve- Connauton
Polasek- Tommernes
subs: Corrado, Hannay, Ellington, others (walk ons)

Lack
Iilahti
Honzik

I imagine Rodin will be there, just as I'd think Hodgson would be. The only reason I see for these guys to miss it is if they're so involved in their training and they'd consider this tournament a set-back. If that's the case, great, it shows they're taking things seriously. I trust their trainer, I'm very excited for camp this year.

Sweatt Schroeder Clark
Rai Friesen Fraser
Volpatti Schneider Tochkin
Olivier Morin Smith Gendur

Oberg Fischer
Connauton Tanev
Ellington Polasek

Lack
Houser

Last years line up almost no prospects who alreday played pro, that was why I dont think Shroder and Hodgson will be there.

Looks like Schroeder is supposed to be playing. No mention of Hodgson.

Quote:
The eight game tournament will feature players from the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets. A total of 15 NHL first and second round draft picks, are all scheduled to play for their respective teams. Notable prospects named to the tournament’s rosters include Nicklas Jensen, Jordan Schroeder, Bill Sweatt, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mark Schiefele, Sven Bartschi and Curtis Hamilton.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that we're less than 3 weeks away from puck drop and tourney information such as team rosters is non-existent? I wonder how ticket sales are going when they only have team logos to market?

I would imagine it's not an issue at all actually.

Not a huge deal. NFL Kickoff vs. NHL Young Stars? The NFL junkies will watch the kickoff, and NHL nuts will watch the Young Stars, chances are if you are a casual fan, you aren't watching Young Stars anyway.

I'm wowed that Spac is showing some games of this. Last year I had to watch feeds to see it, and it wasn't so long ago when there was only one televised pre-season game for the Canucks that fans could watch.

Wow.

EDIT: I highly doubt Hodgson will play. Schroeder should though.

Went last year was pretty good hockey. Tanev really stood out at the tourney. Going to the Sunday game thought it was at 7 thirty not 4 so good to know. It is competitive hockey with some trying to get invites to main camp. Will be excited to see Rodin and maybe Archibald. Lack was great at this camp last year as well. Basically if you cannot shine at this event you are not ready to do well at the AHL level.
