What an awful offseason with the sad deaths in North America and now this.

Numb.

So hard to believe those players will no longer be skating ever again and how hard it will be for their families.

A tragedy. Sincerest condolences to them and the city of Yaroslavl.

I am sure the hockey community from all around the world and commemorate them appropiately.

So sad.

Terrible news. That's really all that can be said. Doesn't matter who played where. Just terrible news. Rest in peace, men.

All in my thoughts and prayers.
Working on going on an internship in Russia next year and am looking forward to visiting KHL teams... Yaroslavl might very well be one of the nearest. Big fan of Russian hockey.

If there was something I could do. Would be nice if the NHL added patches to the jerseys, and I would really want one of the patches as well.
Oh, how I will treasure my signed Demitra jersey now. (Thank you so much to who got me this... you'll know if you read this).

All the best wishes to everybody somehow involved. Survivor (praying). Family. Friends. Colleagues. Fans.
All you need.

I would imagine that every single team in the NHL has a player or member of staff that knew or were friends with one of the victims of this tragedy. This is an event that will have touched so many people around the hockey world. The word tragedy is thrown around to easily in terms of sporting failures.

This is the one time where the word can be used correctly. This is an absolute tragedy. Condolences to all the families and friends of the victims.

Vale.

OMG I can't believe this, just saw the list and remember players I've watched in the NHL, this has been an off-season to forget. Condolences to their families. Still can't believe...Demitra gone? Holy ****, speechless.

They allways say dont fly in russia.. probably for a reason. The pre-flight checks are too relaxed and they sometimes use old planes.

I cant even believe this is true, players like pavol demitra, one of my favourite, are now gone. They now truly are Legends, if living man can not be a legend. I still dont understand that a plane full of hockey stars can actually drop and get destroyed with no mercy.

This is sad day for all of us brothers who are in hockey in any way. Fan, player, what ever, it touches us all. Rest in peace..

PS.
Im still in shock and can understand what happend really. Its like Finland won the whc gold but opposite. Its so horrible that i cant even truly understand it. I know if any else plane had drop down, it would have been as devastating loss as this, i think all human lifes are equally important but still when lots of great players of hockey die this way all at once, i feel more shocked..

Hope that the KHL decides to award some sort of "biggest comeback" trophy named after one of the players who died today.

The music sent shivers up my spine.

The list of the victims of this tragedy at the end of the clip really reminded me of the magnitude of this terrible event.

Seeing the names of the 3 flight attendants struck me.

It emphasized the terrible waste of humanity at so many levels.

Can anyone tell me which player appears to be doing the sign of the cross(at the 49 second mark) and why he would have been doing so on the ice?

thanks

It's Alexander Kalyanin. Probably he was a religious man, many Russians actually do that before the game starts.
