Just awful news. Man, I felt even more ill when I read the names. Karpotsev in particular. Such a shame...

RIP

Hey gang, been a long day at work and other stuff I hadda do after but just to chime in;

-It doesn't matter what ESPN or radio stations covered or how much time they gave to this. We're all hockey fans, hockey is different and much more communal than any other sport. It's family. Whether we cheered or jeered these guys or didn't know who some of them were, it's communal and it's a terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go to all the family, friends, colleagues of all involved, and the entire city of Yarosalv.

Also, I don't want to get into a pointing fingers game but the KHL needs to be seriously altered. I don't care how many people get fired because at this point it's just a PR move., This is the second tragedy in just under three years that was preventable and it is unacceptable. The league needs to be suspended indefinitely until they get their safety and operating procedures down. No more old planes, no more arenas without defibrillators, no more coaches challenging players to fights, etc.

RIP Potsie, Karel, Demitra, McRimmond, Marek, Salei, etc.

as well you shouldn't. When I heard the news I cried too. I'm still in denial that a whole hockey team could just cease to exist. It's really screwed up man.

Aleksander Galimov (ex teammate of OV) is said to be one out of two surviving people on the flight. According to Norwegian press Galimov has severe burns on 80% of his body.
The other survivor is said be a one of the flight crew.

Potsy was a shutdown defenseman for the Rangers for a season. A darn good one at that (was it Lowe (edit: it was Samuelsson, I think) that was his partner at the time; the faced other teams' top lines every night and did great). I remember seeing him in a game against the Stars in '96. Friday night. One of the best games I've been to. He fought Grant Marshall in a fight that went forever. He had some spunk. He always had tough luck with injuries, but always went down to take a puck to the body, and always stuck up for a teammate when he had to.

This is a real tragedy; not just for Potsy, as I only wanted to share my thoughts on him, but for hockey. The NHL, Russia and elsewhere.

I was in the hospital when my wife forwarded me the link. On my way home from my afternoon clinic, I had just picked up my sushi and clicked on the link she sent me. It felt like an eternity as I read the article, standing on the corner, brown paper bag in my right hand, my iPhone in the left and light rain falling down. I often wondered how this didn't happen sooner with all the travel pro-sports team do and I hoped I never saw it happen. Whoever said that hockey fans are a family is spot on. Doesn't matter what team or where they are from, it really does make me sad on the inside when someone loses a loved one like this.

Unfortunately, Galimov passed away. The burns were too much and he couldn't be saved. There is only one survivor, the aforementioned crew member.

I've been hearing he has died all day long, he won't give up. What is your source? Obviously the odds are against him but the last I've heard is he is hanging in there.

Yeah those reports were from earlier I believe and they were false. Last I've read is he was in the hospital with his body being about 80 percent burned. There's a video of him being taken into the hospital (not gonna post it on here, don't think it's right), and it looks like for the most part his lower body isn't bad and his face was relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, the issue seems to be that his lungs were burned. Hopefully he pulls through.

Sather speaks.

http://blueshirtsunited.com/posts/71...an-plane-crash

Quote:
"The New York Rangers organization is greatly saddened after learning of today's tragedy," said Sather. "Words cannot begin to express the magnitude of devastation for such unimaginable loss. "Two Rangers alumni and one former draft pick perished in the accident. Alexander Karpovtsev helped to bring a Stanley Cup Championship to New York in 1994. Karel Rachunek played two seasons in New York, and Jan Marek was a former draft pick. Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of these players, and the families of all those lost today."

The original tweet was from 9 hours ago. All other reports as of now are saying he's still alive. Nothing confirmed either way though.
