You've gotta be kidding me.

Please - - anyone here on forth with news like this, just try and keep it away from here. The news is disheartening enough.

Here's a recreation of the crash.

It's an animation(it's not too graphic), but still hard to watch.

Do you think he was trying to ditch it? Ala Captain Sully?

In that recreation it looked like he was trying to aim for the water. Obviously it's just a recreation and probably not very close to the actual events, but there could be an explanation.

This is just terrible, its terrible when this happens to anyone my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected!

Also in 1949 it was, In Italy there was a team in Torino called IL GRANDE Torrino, it was the best team in Italy for almost 10 yrs and had many of the national team players on it and it crashed and killed everyone on board.

Thanks for the effort.

So strange to hear that so many names you recognize are all gone just like that.

Pavol Demitra was one of my favourite players growing up as a kid, he had one hell of a shot.

I'm so sad.

Just absolutely gutwrenching.

Really nothing more to say. My heart goes out to all the players, their friends and family.

This is true, and in fact Torino never really recovered from that. They were the bigger team in Turin ahead of Juventus, but they still haven't made up the ground.

These things are so mindbogglingly weird and tragic.

Magnus Pääjärvis brother Björn Svensson was offered a tryout contract with Lokomotiv half a month ago, but was already negotiating with a german team, so he turned it down.

There was an article yesterday that I was reading and there is a handful of events like this that has happened and wiped out an entire team. One that comes to mind is Marshall University. I believe they were just returning home after winning the championship. I don't entirely recall the story but it was turned into a movie called We Are Marshall.

He was so fun to watch. I remember growing up too and watching hockey on the international stage and I found miyself rooting for Slovakia after Canada. I always said they just needed a goalie and they would be able to compete. Glad they were able to have one of their best finishes last year at the Olympics with Pavol.

Why the heck is that attenna located at the end of the runway? If the animation is accurate, isn't that attenna a bit in the way?

I would wager that the 'official' reason will be anything but a full accounting of what contributed to the crash.

You have a very good point and could be right. But I just think of that Air France flight and I think we got a pretty accurate description of what went wrong.

I haven't seen anyone else report this yet in this thread as yesterday it seemed to be going back and forth as to whether or not Salei was on the flight(he was) also as to whether or not Galimov had actually passed away.

In the latest TSN article up on their home page right now it says that Galimov is in fact still alive. I'm assuming he would still be in critical condition and it will a hard task to keep the burns free from infection. But I guess he gained consciousness yesterday and was able to talk to his dad.

Yeah, your right. With the crew that was lost. No need to diminish their lives. My bad. Still would be a testiment to the hockey world.

Bit of an Oilers perspective in that link, as the journalist talks about how a comparable city in NA would be Edmonton. Also mentions Grebs as wanting to return to play in Yaroslavl.

Just a sad story.

As a side note this is the 13th plane crash in Russia this year killing a total of 81 people.

Russia is also taking this step going forward

Russian Transportation Ministry has decided in August that all airlines with less than 10 large planes must shut down by 2012.
