RIP Pavol Demitra

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hocke...9bb30f31a.html

Very sad day, he was truely a great player for this organization, ranking near the top in offensive categories. One of my favorite players. I really hope the Blues honor his number or due something, I don't think people realize just how good he was.

I just read about that crash on a national outlet. I have to admit, until I knew what team it was I was afraid Tarasenko's squad was involved.

I can't imagine what it would be like to lose your whole team. We've had some bad seasons, but that would be horrific. Aside from the families affected, I feel badly for the city.

Imagine after this offseason if all of a sudden there just WAS no Blues team.

Reminded me of the 1970 crash with the Marshall University Football team. Just an absolute tragedy that affects so many people.

I know the NHL and KHL have their differences, but I hope the NHL does something as this affects the entire hockey community.

Absolute tragedy. Sympathies to the Demitra family and all the other survivors.

Here's the team roster. Salei was not on the plane according to reports. No word on McCrimmon.

I agree. They should wear a "38" patch this season.

That'd be cool.

Jori Lethra played for them last season, good thing he left.

RIP too a great player, and to the 34 players who were lost.

I still can't believe it. He was one of my favorite Blues, wish we could of kept him all these yrs. Blues have to do something to honor him on home opener, at least a moment of silence.

I'm just in disbelief. I met Pavs once, when I was about 10. I don't really remember much, it was just an autograph signing, but he seemed polite. One of my favorites growing up. I have a friend who was that same age, who was a huge Demitra fan. Had his head shaved, and a similar necklace to the one he always wore. We're both taking it pretty hard. Horrible day.

This is horrible. I'm keeping the NHL community in my thoughts and prayers like never before.
I'll never forget seeing Pavol pull up in his bright blue Viper before a practice with this big ol' smile on his face. The Blues had just given him a multi-year deal and he looked so happy.
RIP to all those lost.

I think #38 should at least be honored or retired considering he is the 5th all-time leading scorer in Blues history with 493 points in 494 games.

With no vet wearing #38, maybe the Blues 'honor' Demitra?
No, I don't mean retire it, but do the same thing for #38 that is done for #5.

One of my favorite players growing up. I will always remember watching games with my dad in front of the fireplace and seeing #38 and hearing Demitra's name. I think it's safe to say that McRae will have to find a new #. I wonder if that's why Phil was wearing #38, he grew up in St. Louis.

The other three major deaths didn't hit me as bad as this one. Demitra was my favorite player growing up. This one hit me hard. RIP Pavol, and everyone else who was aboard that flight, and I send my prayers to the two survivors as they fight their injuries sustained from the crash

RIP Pavol

I got the opportunity to meet Pavol and introduce him to my kids. He was a great personable guy. A bit of a quiet leader. I can't think a more fun line I got to watch during the late 90's than the cycling Slovaks (Demitra, Handzus, Bartecko). The autographs that he graciously provided to my kids on jerseys and photos have always been treasured.

I remember the night Pavol made his first spectacular "shake and bake" goal and his infamous interview afterwards that pretty much sold out his style to every goalie in the league (hilarious). Nonetheless, I was never disappointed with his ability to perform on the ice.

I remember the look on his face when we came back in overtime to beat the Leafs 6-5.

I remember when Doug Weight couldn't stop talking about how much he wanted to be on the ice with Pavol Demitra.

Most of all, I remember him being "so hoppy"

RIP Pavol Demitra, may God bless Luca and Zara and care for Maja. Pavol enjoy eternity with Tobias

I started watching hockey right when Gretzky was traded to the Blues, so I missed the Hull and Oates, Shanny, Gilmour, etc. days. The forwards I really grew up watching were guys like Turgeon, Weight, Young, Tkachuk, and Demitra. It's incredibly sad to see one of my childhood hockey heroes pass away so young. I definitely think the Blues should (and will) honor Demitra in some way this season.

RIP Demitra & everyone else who passed away in the plane crash.

It's so interesting to me to see how those only 5-6 years younger than me see Demitra in a different light. To me he was just one of the crowd with Turgeon, Young, early Walt, etc. I guess its the same as the way I see Hull, Oates, Brown, Shanny, Cujo, etc.

Be at peace Pavol and Igor.

Such a sad day. Pavol Demitra was one of my favorites growing up. I will never forget his breakout season in 98-99.
