Coming from my own opinion, If I was lucky enough to make it to the NHL and lucky enough to have a #1 defensive spot on the LA Kings one of the better looking teams, I would take whatever they offered me right away, no thoughts at all, especially if it was the team I was on.
Honestly if I was on a cap struggling team and I was valued around 5 mil, but they could only afford 1 mil, I would take that in a heartbeat because at the end of the day a million dollars is a lot of money. What I don't understand is why certain professional athletes want so much excess money that they will probably never even need to use. Are professional athletes that greedy and entitled.
If my organization was offering me 9 years at around 60 million, I would easily take that because thats an honor that they offered me such a lengthy contract for so much and its a compliment that they believe you are their key players.
I don't get why 2 and a half months later there is no decision from Doughty. Come on man its just money. Thats just my opinion though.

You can't luck yourself into the NHL, let alone into the league as a #1 defenseman.
What if Doughty ended up getting scummed like Crosby did or sustained any sort of significant injury? There aren't any guarantees in life and he's one of the best defensemen in the league. I'm certainly not going to begrudge him for trying to get what he wants while he can right now and I don't buy for one second that anyone on this board would be so noble if they were actually in his shoes.

Nah actually I would be perfectly content with a million dollars. Not like I would spend that extra 4 million unless I was supporting a family. a million dollars is more than enough to sustain my lifestyle for like 20 years

A million dollars after tax doesn't go nearly as far as you think it does, especially for people who usually bounce between more than one living location.

That theory is far from rigorously proven, though it's certainly a major factor. On the other hand, assuming you're insinuating this represents "luck" for an NHL player, the better you have so far displayed yourself to be at hockey, the greater your chances of finding rink time are going to get.
The author's point is held together by flimsy, anecdotal evidence.
My favorite one is about violin players. From what I gathered, his point was that concert level violinists practice the most, so hours and hours of practice must cause all violinists to become concert level violinists, which is garbage. When I played violin, I practiced quite a bit and there were things that I just couldn't do that other kids could while putting in less effort. Correlation doesn't imply causation.

Never been one of my favorite franchises. (Has something to do with my
1st yr in Colorado being the old Rockies last resulting in me missing out watching the great 1980's/90's hockey live.)
Any indications whether Gollisono and Quinn are looking for a team....? To rescue...?
As would I. To those of us who aren't millionaires, a million dollars is a ton of money, and so is 5 million dollars. It's hard to differentiate for us. Thing is, the second figure is five times the first.
Not to mention that sports careers can end suddenly. I don't blame players one iota for making their money when they can.

If you're a #1 d-man and you play for only $1 million, then you are going to have a whole lot of other players really mad at you. Just thing of negotiations with others. Say Myers agent goes to Darcy and Darcy would have been like, you're not worth $5 million if Doughty is worth $1 million.
Saw this a couple days ago. It's very well-done. I'm glad they chose to put it on the back, because this sort of image fits best on the flat, self-contained back than it would wrapped around the front.
Some former Sabres made some noise in the Calgary-Vancouver game last night.
Paul Byron apparently played pretty well; he had a nice looking assist and was named second star of the game.
Mancari had the only goal for Vancouver in that game.

I hope Byron has a really solid career. Mancari I don't quite care either way.

To be fair, Vancouver only sent something like 1 NHL'er to Calgary. They had a somewhat more established lineup for the home game of the split, which they won 4-3. Butler played in that one for Calgary and looked to have a quiet but steady game, although his cross-checking penalty late put Calgary down two men for the last minute or so.
For the RIT alums/fans around, Chris Tanev scored a pretty SH goal joining the rush off a feed from Marco Sturm, and nearly had another one joining the rush as the trailer in the 3rd period but hit the post. He's going to be in Vancouver's top 4 sooner rather than later.
Steve Pinnizzotto (played at RIT 05-07) turned some heads with a couple of assists, including the primary on Schroeder's 2 on 1 goal and some good physical play (which he is more known for). Rumblings that he's in competition for a 4th line spot coming out of camp make me chuckle; odds are good that at some point this year (whether by injuries or because he earned the spot out of camp) Pinner will become the 2nd RIT player to dress for an NHL regular season game....on the same team as the first.

Same here, as I started to like Byron quite a bit last season.

I know, I watched the one that was in Vancouver and was going to watch the one in Calgary but didn't feel like getting on the computer.
The only reason I found it funny was because he's probably managed to get the hopes of a small number of Canucks fans up since he scored a goal.
At least he managed to beat an NHL goaltender, though.
Tanev has looked great for the Canucks and is quickly becoming my second favorite Canuck defender (after Edler).
Unfortunately, he probably won't have a regular spot until Vigneault is fired and Aaron Rome is finally gone.

FWIW, Butler looked the same except he wore # 44......
Connolly was invisible in his debut with Leafs (4-0 L to PHA) - even Wilson called out his top line. He wore # 12....

Watching him in the Vanek/Goose spot on the 5 on 3 was pretty funny. I couldn't think of a worse spot to put him in that situation. But if the Leafs want guys to be cross checking him in the back and ribs for a few minutes a night, by all means... I'm sure Mr. Regehr would have a jolly ole time.
