16k for the Red Sox? Hope Toronto can keep up some of the momentum they built up this year into next year.
That surprised me too. Could be due to the fact that it's back to school for alot of kids, so they're pretty occupied along with the parents. Still, a jays/rsox game should be pulling in atleast 20+ regardless.

I'm surprised about the low attendance as well but I think your right. Not the best week for parents.
Yeah, my buddy and I were at the game last night and were surprised by the sparse crowd. But it's true, with school back, it probably wasn't the best of days.
The Jays are in line to average 2,000+ more fans this year than last. I was shocked to go back and see that a mere 3 years ago in 2008 the Jays averaged just under 30,000. If the team gets back to that level any time soon you'd have to say that's a pretty good year for the team attendance wise.
Back then average attendance was tickets sold, not people in the stadium, so its not surprising the numbers were much higher.
I really don't blame people for not wanting to watch meaningless September baseball for the 17th straight year. If the Jays are in contention, then the fans will come back.

I hope as I'm sure rogers does that the stadium starts filling up more regularly. It just looks so much better when you've got a packed house. Good sign having attendance numbers moving upwards again.

Not to be a Negative Nancy but why should fans go to games? This franchise has been out of the playoffs in Septmeber every year since the World Series. They haven't earned the fans money in a long time. The Jays have one of the longest streaks in baseball without making the playoffs.

because this team is freaking exciting now and for the future. Were I not on the other side of the country I'd be at a bunch of games

The future does look promising but I would rather go when they are winning, not losing.
That's the mentality of most fans - most people at some point will stop investing their money into a losing product. Teams that escape this trend are the exception, not the norm.
With baseball though, it's a bit tricky due to the number of home games played in a season, the much higher number of seats to fill, the varied days and times of a baseball game. Even the best teams in baseball don't fill their seats for EVERY home game in the season. I'd like to think that the attendance issue is promising because the team has on occasion filled the stadium with people. Give the city a winning team and I think it's far more likely than not that we'll see those seats start filling up for every weekend series and most evening games.
Realized I never commented on yesterday's game. Only got to see clips of the game but it was great to see them pick up another win against the Red Sox and do it by more than a single run this time!
Greater homers by JP, Thames and EE and all clutch moments to not just take a big lead in the game, but Thames and EE came up big by widening the score when Boston was gaining momentum in the game.

Red Sox & Phillies sell out every home game and the Cubs pretty much do the same. The Yankees also basically have 95% of the stadium filled but that is a huge park, they have the highest overall attendance numbers.

I'm with you on that one Nemesis on both fronts. Living in Alberta right now but I'll be back in Ontario next year. I may only get a chance to get to a few games next year as I'll have a very busy summer and an extended summer vacation but the year following I plan to be a semi regular fixture in the stands.
Attendance was terrible last year.. didn't they set something like 4 records for lowest attended game ever?
Got off to a terrible start this year we well but Bautista and now Lawrie brought a little excitement to the team... but if the team doesn't improve next year yikes.. probably 15k nightly.
I dont agree at all with Lawrie bunting there. With a risp and 0 outs early in the ballgame and a hot stick at the plate. It's clearly not a bunting situation.
