Alex Semin

Eklund posted another ridiculous blog about the Sabres having interest in Alex Semin. I personally think it's garbage because everything the guy says is garbage. However, since it's something to talk about, would you want Semin on the Sabres? Even with his questionable attitude?

The short answer is hell no.

With stronger wording.

There aren't enough negative superlatives to say about this.

Not at the price or role he'd want. Guy isn't a gamer.

Expanding on my previous comment: A high-profile, high-salary scoring winger without a playoff pedigree who is also a pending UFA, who also happens to play the team's biggest position of strength? It's just not happening. Just no.

We don't have nearly enough wingers heck yeah

Seriously Eklund do some homework on what we need first. I understand that you have to make up BS rumors but give them an air of authenticity sheesh. Eklund is Eklund. Eklund.

Didn't someone say once that Ruff doesn't like Russian players?

I doubt he would fit with the team.

More hits for Eklund. Nothing more than that.

He doesn't like lazy players or players who are lax when it comes to defense. Nationality has little to do with it.

Semin is the anti-Ruff player. Not a chance especially since he plays at our positional logjam.

In what Bizzaro World does this make any sort of sense?

Do the Sabres need another winger? No

Do the Sabres want a no-defense no-playoffs guy? No

Does Semin's $6.7M cap hit fit within the Sabres current cap situation? No

Player A: 12 G, 18 A, 30 pts in 37 games (.81 ppg)
Player B: 15 G, 5 A, 20 pts in 36 games (.56 ppg)

Player A is Semin. Player B is Thomas Vanek, who many laud for his ability in the playoffs. Facts suck. Semin would be a stupid trade target because of his price and his position, but I don't think his playoff ability, or lack thereof, is the reason not to target him. If Semin is a playoff no-show, what's Vanek?

I think the better argument about Semin's playoff career is that he's either dominant (Rangers '09, Rangers '11) or silent (zero goals in seven-game series losses to Pittsburgh in '09, and Montreal in '10), with not too much in between. But if you handpicked series in which stars were silent and their team lost, and then called them all "playoff no-shows," you'd have a pretty long list of stars.

And let me repost this part before people try to jump on me for defending Semin and/or accuse me of wanting him on the Sabres: Semin would be a stupid trade target because of his price and his position.

Last two seasons in the playoffs:

Semin: 16 gp 4g 4a
Vanek: 10gp 7g 1a

A lot of the Semin flack is "What have you done for me lately" given the big money he's been making.

Facts may suck at times but one of yours is hardly that. Many laud Vanek for his playoff play? Hardly. Most were happy with his production this year on the PP. But also considered him to be pretty underwhelming at ES in the playoffs this past year (1pt in 7games and a -7). Previous to this season he wasn't pointed to as a playoff performer at all. He was generally criticized for his playoff play along with the other core players (Pommer, Roy, Connolly)

Cap hit would be too high and we have too many wingers. People who say he is a no show in the playoffs need to look at his stats. If he's a no-show our entire team is bunch of no-shows.

I don't think too many would argue with this
