Hyka and Akeson are the only players I've been impressed with so far. Not counting the goalies who have been a pleasant surprise.
It's been one game??

Schenn and Couturier were all over the ice. Literally everywhere.

Noebels was solid.

Lauridsen was physical but clearly still a non-factor. He needs more development.

Hyka was good. Everyone liked his goal, but Brown, Zolnierczyk, McGinn, Noebels, and Ranford were all significantly better.

Akeson was flashy, awesome, and exciting.

I 100% disagree with that. McGinn barely did anything and got his name called on a few times. Noebels had good positioning but how many times did Akeson center him the puck for a nice goal and he couldnt get it done? At times I even forgot Ranford was playing.

That's fine. We'll agree to disagree.

Ranford's skating was much improved. --REALLY wanted to see that.
Noebels and McGinn use their body effectively and show some urgency defensively. --Wanted to see that.

Hyka was alright. It was cool, but I don't see us signing him.

Schenn: I expect him to be a lock for 3rd line center and numbers in the range of 19-25-44. I didn't see that player tonight, however I believe (and hope) he is looking forward to regular camp.

Couturier: He wasn't horrible by any means but he really needs to work on his skating, speed, strength and drive (this was already known, I was hoping he'd show otherwise). Not that he was penciled in to begin with but I highly doubt he'll make the Flyers this year.

On a positive note, Akeson, Brown, and Zolnierczyk looked pretty good.

That was my first live game (in Philly) in years and I loved it! Just floated from seat to seat haha. I missed the entire first period, so I'm not sure if that'll change things, but here's what I saw:

Schenn and Couturier did nothing flashy, but their play was solid. You can tell both have great hockey senses. They both made some very good passes and neither were contact-shy. Couturier indeed was very active and impressive defensively, and Schenn physically. Both need to work on their faceoffs. Otherwise, while I would have loved to see one (or both) of them take over the game, I was pleased nonetheless. And they both played well together on the PP.

Harry Z and Tyler Brown really stood out to me. They both seemed to have a step on the competition. Z needs to work on being able to make the play, because his speed and grit will give him the window to make the plays.

Akeson looked good, but seemed to hold the puck too long at times. Had some great shifts late.

Hyka looked serviceable, as did Kessel.

McGinn, Cousins, Ranford, Hostetter, and Lauridsen didn't look bad...but I was hoping one of them would step up and catch my eye.

Both goalies were actually quite impressive, and hopefully they get a shot somewhere in the organization.

And finally, I love how the coaches ended the game with Schenn, Couturier, and Z on the ice, fending off the Caps' last rush.

My 3 stars were akeson brown and phillips

Z was ok i guess but hes a lot older then most of these guys so i expect more from him.

I liked what i saw out of all of our 18yearolds cconsidering their inexperience.

Akeson's moves tonight were awesome. Blake Kessel played a really solid game IMO. Harry Z looked pretty good, he always kept the energy going. Hyka was in good scoring positions all night. Tyler Brown's goal was awesome. Houser was sharp in net tonight, his save on the one timer towards the end was great. The 3 fights were a treat for sure. And I almost got to meet Lappy.

Awesome night.

Harry Z's speed is extremely impressive and Akeson was clearly the best Flyer on the ice offensively even though he didn't show up on the score sheet. Kessel was the best Flyers D-man. Schenn was good but honestly I expected more. Hope Akeson gets a good look in camp next week. Just my two cents.

I just got home from the game. Akeson by a country mile was the best Flyer. His stick handling was impressive, only if he had some decent wingers to work with tonight. I wonder if the Flyers know that he is keeper???? What I would like to see is Schenn, Couturier, and Akeson on the same line for at least one exhibition game. Couturier can play LW and Akeson can play RW. The SAC line........... Brown, Z were not bad either. Flemming and Henley for the Caps were big dudes. Kessel has some decent skills as an
offensive defenseman, needs a lot more defensive awareness. The other defensemen
were just ok. And Mathers, was not as horrible a skater as I thought, he cannot be any slower than Shelley. Of course Mathers doesn't have Shelley's skill set.......;-))))). Maybe this has already been mentioned but why didn't Rinaldo or Pither play?? Rinaldo would have been in the penalty box all night long; the refereeing was mediocre at best. Where they NHL refs and linesmen???

As usual the rookie games are disjointed to say the least. But it is fun to watch the kids bust their butts out there. Akeson surprised me with his play. Brown has some wheels and looked good. Both tenders were solid. And Mathers at just 18 looks like he may be a beast when he grows up. I really did not know much about Kessel but if he keeps this up he could be a steal. But he is what 22? so who knows. Hyka seems to have a very keen awareness on the ice and played a solid game also.

Also, i hate the people that sat behind me.
Yelling curses while there were kids around in the area, only knowing mighty duck terms, having no idea what the hell icing is, and yelling shoot all game..

Plus.. The one kid would yell to any capital player who touched the puck "hey you're not ovechkin so stop acting like him!"

I think your camera work was better than what was on the link I watched. I had to take a Dramamine half way through.

I'd like to see what Akeson could do with Briere and Hartnell. A cheaper Leino, perhaps.

My thoughts were essentially the same as most of the posts I've read. Akeson was easily the best player in orange, side from both tenders that did a great job. Schenn wasn't too involved offensively, and even looked almost lost with the puck in the corners. He was great on the pk and makes very calm plays in the defensive zone. It was nice to see him taking the body and blocking shots too. Couturier was solid too, hes got a willingness to go to the net and you can tell his natural puck skills and vision are there. He REALLY needs to beef up though. He was getting banged around and taken off the puck fairly easily.

Also, why isn't petr placek at camp or in the game? Im assuming it's because he has collegiate obligations?
