Predictions on what the final roster will look like
If Anyone would like to predict what the final roster will look like (with injuries kept in mind) and the roles/line combinations of the players that you predict will make the team will be. Goal leader? Points leader? Pims Leader and which goalie will lead the way in the wins / gaa
Wow havent posted in here for a while but now this season is finally coming together and Ive been trying to keep up.
Seems like the talent has been added with Murphy etc.
And from what I've been following there is some good grit in the bottom 6 witha few acquisitions and Hottot still kicking around.
So from what I'm gathering after Flemmer got traded they opted to not fill a heavyweight enforcer spot in the lineup? Flemmer was slow and everything but they should have looked for a Didiomete type to put on the top lines and protect the Russians.
I feel like things could get bad for these skilled guys without a true heavyweight fighter

This is a feeling shared by quite a few people. The team is young and skilled and there are definitely going to be nights that the opposing team will feel the only way they can compete is physically. The biggest concern will be when the Sting are on the road.
From what I have seen the Sting are not what I would consider a small team and they do have several people that stand up for themselves and others. An enforcer is less of an issue every year in the NHL and the OHL is no doubt following suit, but I would love to hear the conversations with the Sting coaches regarding this.
Should the Sting need a legit heavy weight, they are not really that difficult to trade for at the deadline and teams have shown in the past that a potent power play can be a better deterent.
Interesting interview with Ken Holland in the Toronto Sun today on the topic of enforcers. His theory is that the NHL is so competitive now that a team can't afford to put a player in the lineup who can only fight and doesn't have NHl level skill. Not sure if this theory translates to junior because a) it's a development league and the distribtion of icetime is much more skewed and b.) there are much more pronounced momentum shifts at this level but it might explain the reason that Beaulieu doesn't have a "fighter only" type of player in the lineup.

Yeah I agree getting rid of Flemmington isnt terrible, hes slow and a defenseman. I dont really like defenseman as an enforcer because they need to be on the ice more.
But in the OHL its not super hard to find a heavyweight fighter who can still put up a decent amount of points just because they are physically imposing. The sting should seriously be looking into that.
Rob Flick, Jamie Devane, Sam Carrick and that Andreoff out of Oshawa all come to mind off the top of my head as fighters who can put up points because they are bigger than most in the OHL.

Sarnia has one in Brett Ritchie. Just not sure how much they want him fighting, but from what i've seen he's done pretty good.
Sam Carrick doesn't tip the scale at 190. I think the concern is a legit heavyweight like the other two you mentioned. Mathers is someone everyone seems to want. Alex O'Neil from Brampton would be another good guy. This is something I wonder if they're going to or have looked into Right now Dundas, Hottot, Nevins, Chiarlitti who will all drop the gloves, but non can be considered heavyweights.

The fact that you have several people that can stand up for themselves may be what JB is counting on. I remember London before they won the Memorial Cup with a talented team that didn't have a legit heavyweight - Dale had them not fighting and developed a great power play. (They eventually got Brandon Prust)
At this point, I still would like to get someone on the roster mostly because of the younger players - I am also satisfied that should one really be needed the Sting could get one.
A bit off topic...but im looking for a Sting's Jersey...cant, find one online...can somebody point me in the right direction...
Bought my Yakupov jersey from the gift shop at RBC Centre (Sting arena). It was the only place I could find one and I had to pull some strings with some Sting personnel to get the jersey and size I wanted.
I am hoping that more jersey's become available through other mediums (River City Sports carry CHL jerseys but I have never came across a Sting one there)
Ryan Kujawinski (Kujo) may be in line up Friday night its day to day, Thats good news. Ritchie on his way to P.E.I. gone to main camp . (good luck kid)
Former Sting forward JC Campagna has been claimed on waivers by Cape Breton
Of the QMJHL
Guess nobody from the O wanted him
I am glad he found a place to play. JC had a very strong camp for the Sting and he had told me last week that he was waiting to hear back from a team for this year. I am glad he found a home with Cape Breton.

Ritchie is a good compliment for really tough games but you dont want one of your top forwards to do your enforcing.
A tough bottom 6 with the Hottots etc is great but they dont scare anyone is the problem and if people are taking runs at the Russkys something will need to be done to address that
How has Deangelo looked this year? Wish he would have stayed in Cedar Rapids but realize it was the correct move going to the OHL.
DeAngelo has looked very good. Poise and patient with the puck and he makes tremendous decisions with the puck offensively. He's going to be one of the leagues best PP ###Bs over the next few years. Unfortunately Sarnia hasn't gave him that first unit PPQB spot yet. I am sure he will earn it eventually
On another note, Yakupov scored 4 goals and an assist vs Windsor last night in their final pre-season game. Sarault was filling in for the injured Galchenyuk on that line and received four pts of his own. I love the versatility of Sarault. The kid is a gamer and is in for a big season (especially if Gally misses some time)
OHL: Scare for Sting as Galchenyuk bangs up knee
By Neate Sager
You think the Sarnia Sting cannot wait for the non-binding games to be over with? With the start of the regular season a week away, Alex Galchenyuk apparently, in Terry Doyle's term, "tweaked" a medial collateral ligament early on in the stages of a 4-4 preseason tie with the rival Windsor Spitfires.
Galchenyuk, on the forecheck, tried to cut around the Windsor goal, stumbled, and went down in a heap behind the net. He was helped off the ice by teammates and gingerly made his way to the Sting dressing room.
After the game, Sting coach Jacques Beaulieu said Galchenyuk had caught a rut in the ice and "right now, he's dealing with a sore MCL."
No more details were available at press time but Beaulieu added if Galchenyuk is hurting, the team will just have to deal with it.
"Injuries are part of the game," said Beaulieu. "Other kids are just going to have to step up," if Galchenyuk is out for any length of time. (Sarnia Observer)
