Maxwell is starting on Sunday. Got that from Twitter.

And hiya everyone, been lurking for a couple of weeks but decided to join in. I'll talk about myself another time.

If you don't mind me asking where did you see this on twitter? i haven't seen anything regarding Maxwell starting. If that is the case though Hope better be hurt or it looks like the Sting will just ruin the progression of another goalie that has the ability and potential to be that starter. Hope out preformed Maxwell huge in pre season regardless if Maxwell is an OA or not to sit Hope is kind of an insult.

I sent him a tweet asking if there was any word on who would be starting, as I personally want to see Hope in the net for Sarnia and am eager to see his first start. He replied with a message saying Maxwell was starting. I don't think it was done as a tweet, as it didn't post on his feed (at least that's what showed for me).

Thats odd, especially since they preached the whole "both will get similar ice" Yet Maxwell is getting both starts on a 2 game weekend? They said earlier that they'd be looking at something like a 38/30 or something along those lines, figured that meant Maxwell getting the extra game on 3 game weekends or something, it must be killing Hope's confidence to play so well and not even get split time. Doesn't this fall into the trend Sarnia is known for with young goaltenders?

It's only game two. It's a long season. Rather premature to throw Jacques or Sting under the bus all ready. While I agree Hopey has had a very strong preseason maybe if said rumour is true, it's more about trying to give our OA some more confidence. Lots of factors to consider. Hopey's PT will take care of itself due to his skill and compete level. In Jox we trust.

I wouldn't be too concerned with it yet. Too early for that. Maxwell got the win on Friday and JB is giving him a chance to roll with it. Not a bad strategy to see what their OA acquisition can do and prove to them.

It could be something as simple as how each goalie historically plays against Windsor (even though it's a whole new season).

This is what I think, too. Maxwell got the win, and Jacque did say something about how someone who is not playing 100% of the time will not get to play often, while someone who is putting forth 100% will get more time. This goes with that. I personally don't think it was 100% on Friday (that missed smother of a dribbling puck in the first period was a heart attack waiting to happen, for instance), but he got the win and had some nice saves, so he gets the weekend on a day's rest. Hopefully in the next home game Hope gets his first turn in net!

I can't answer that as I don't get Cogeco. However, I will be listening to CHOK starting around 1, or 1:30 - whenever they start.

should be. Cogeco broadcasts both Sarnia & Windsor home games.

Of note, CHOK is live. Game should be starting any moment, but the broadcast is usually half an hour before gametime it seems.

Sting trail Spitfires 2-0 halfway through the game on two goals from Khokhlachev.

So far, Sting look very "blah" and playing with very little energy.

Sting need to come out with alot more enthusiasm in the 3rd if they want a shot, very lucklustre effort so far and sloppy game. The Spitfires are playing a good defensive game and Campbell's been solid.

Khokhlachev, Campbell and Rychel were the story of the day for the Windsor Spitfires who gave it to the Sarnia Sting and beat them 2-0 at the WFCU. The Spits outplayed the Sting and completely deserved the win as they were the better team. The Spits went 2-4 on the PP where as the Sting went 0-4. Jack Campbell looks completely different from last year he is more composed and if he can play like this it will show why the Dallas Stars selected him 10th overall 2 years ago. The line of Khokhlachev MacQueen Rychel looked great for the Spits and Dunnick and Posa did a fabulous job on the back end especially on the PK.

For the Sting Yakupov had an ok game and Anthony DeAngelo looked great. DeAngelo has a lot of poise and is a great skater for a 15 year old. Sting fans are going to be lucky to have him for the next 3-4 years. Boucher had some great chances on his regular season debut as did Yakupov but JAck Campbell stood tall and when Jack wasn't beating the Sting the Sting were beating themselves either fanning on the shot or missing the net entirely.

Brandon Maxwell played ok. He does have a .930 sv% so far this year and a 2.00 GAA. That being said he has been scrambly and somewhat in consistent. He comes together in the late stages of the game and definitely kept the Sting in the game in the 3rd period.

Jack Nevins vs Ty Blickie: Draw- Both players through a lot of haymakers, Blickie left himself open and seems to get hit a lot. That being said no decision on that fight

The Sting really need to work on special teams. Get some lines together and keep them together and develop some chemistry. They also need to work on defensive zone coverage (especially on the PK where they were caught a lot with 3 guys on one side of the ice and sliding all over the place). Over all it was a sloppy and disappointing game for the Sting and hopefully they can rebound from it next weekend when they take on Brampton who is also 1-1-0-0.

As of now the London Knights are the only team in the Western Conference to remain undefeated. Barrie, Mississauga and Ottawa are all still undefeated in the East.

I am not surprised at the outcome of this game. This team is starting from scrap in terms of systems. Away games are difficult to play, especially afternoon games after a bus ride - something that the Sting are going to need to learn how to overcome.

I would guess PK will be focused on this week during practice - two games in a row that they have looked badly disorganized. Two home games next weekend, could be the first game with the full roster dressed.

Minus Murphy and Harrison. Murphy you probably won't see until November

Haha. I am sure fanofdo stated that with the Murphy exclusion implied.

No offence taken, but it will be interesting to see the forwards together, (assuming Galenchuck is back). I am especially interested in the PP and PK units. I was flipping back and forth between the game yesterday and football games so I really didn't see who was out on special teams.

Most people believe that Boucher, Yakupov and Galenchuck will be the first line. Judging by the ice that Sarault has been getting with Yakupov, the second line might be Sarault, Ritche and Rensfeldt, leaving Hotott, Carnevale and Alberga as a third line (that had enough talent to be our third line on some of our past teams). The 4th line isn't without talent and has people capable to moving up in the depth roster and competing for a jersey.

Regardless, I am sure JB will move people around as the year goes. I asked earlier about Thomas - he wasn't dressed yesterday. Does anyone know what is going on with him?

I'm really hoping that is not going to be used as an excuse. It only takes 2 hours to get to Windsor for crying out loud. All of these kids have travelled a heck of a lot further for games than that during their hockey playing lives.
We're already seeing the same excuses after one loss as we have in years past. The bus ride, they wanted it more, hungrier, more desperate, better goaltending, not all our players are healthy, dressed, etc, etc, etc...How about calling a spade a spade. Windsor was/is better. Period.

I don't see where I made an excuse - I pointed out something that this team needs to overcome. If you have ever rode a bus (yes for only two hours) then played, you would know it is real and if they are to be a team that finishes high in the standings they need to learn to deal with it. Given that they gave two goals up on the PP against Windsor and a SH goal on Friday, they need to get that fixed or they will be in for a long year.

I take nothing away from Windsor, they very much deserved to win the game. Sarnia played well the last half of the third and I would think most people would agree that is more like what we should be expecting. Campbell played very well but I don't believe that he stole the game.

In all, as I said before, it isn't unexpected in my opinion. This is still a young team with probably more turn over than any other team and a new coach. I expect that there will be a steep learning curve for at least two months.

Great report!
Really enjoyed both games from the Sting (I can only listen via CHOK so forgive me if Im missing chunks) and although Fridays razzmatazz wasnt thier on Sunday, they sounded like they were undone by Jack Campbell.
I must admit I would have thought the goaltending would have been split though, as Maxwell wasnt exactley a brick wall on Friday.

Great to have the OHL back though, and thansk for coming on here with your report.

Some roster news to report.

Nathan Mater and Justice Dundas are being sent to the Sarnia Legionnaires, and will play in Wednesday's Jr. B game against London. Another player may be joining the Legionnaires tonight as well.

CHOK reported earlier today that Harrison was released. Not much of a report other than he had been acquired from Kingston and had been injured last year.
