I got the sense a couple of people picked up their game. I know that there are those that don't like Latta, but he played a good game last night and would have even had he not scored. I would love to see him, Thomas, Alberga and Matta play consistently well - it puts pressure on the people getting more ice time.

The next stretch of games will test where this club is and how much work needs to be done. Oshawa (2-2) was considered one of the front runners in the east. Kitchener the next night and Windsor away on Monday will round out the weekend.

It doesn't get easier the next weekend - Saginaw at home, away in Plymouth and home to the red hot Knights. In all a very good test over the next two weeks.
A much better effort last night. Lattas goal was a beauty. I don't think there is any dislike for Latta, just the situation that happened and one particular supporter of his cause. It was nice to see Yaki return to his scoring ways and Rensfeldt played quite well. I am becoming a huge DeAngelo fan. The lad is calm, a good skater, and sees the ice well.

I have to beleive that DeAngelo will start quarterbacking the second PP unit or will be out there with Sasso. I am guessing that JB is progressing him as the season goes but I am in total agreement regarding his abilities. He has been on the PP some but I have to believe we will see alot more of him.

There has been a fair amount of personel swaping on the PP, especially at the 4th forward spot. I don't mind it, I would prefer to see experimenting going on at this point.

Watched the replay, good interview with Conner Murphy - very well spoken for his age, really looks and sounds like a natural leader.

Not mentioned but I thought Maxwell played well - made some key stops and didn't seem to be fighting the puck like he did the first two games.

Tried to watch the game last night on OHL pack. Wow...TERRIBLE techical problems with garbled audio, skipping/pixilated picture, etc. Is it usually this bad? Terry Doyle is a treat to watch/listen to compared to the Owen Sound crew...would have been nice to actually be able to see and hear the game. I had to turn it off. I would be mucho peeved off if I was a paying sponsor...

Bad reception for every Sting game so far. Last night was terrible - also switched to another game.

As someone who currently lives out of town and pays for the Sportspak to watch a lot of the games it is a major p@*s off. Not sure exactly where the problem lies but if they're going to charge subscribers for this they really need to get their ***** together. I agree about Terry Doyle being first rate as an OHL commentator but Cogeco and/or the league should do something about Barry Wright. He's about as dry and boring as it gets.

I don't subscribe only because of the frequent complaints that I hear. I was going to subscribe, but several people I knew were not renewing based on the crappy service - reading posts of frequent complaints has me listening to the radio still. This has been going on for some time now and is especially perplexing since this was part of the OHL's strategy to broadcast home games.

I've tuned in before and never noticed it as being that bad. Last night it was literally unwatchable. Don't they have someone monitoring the broadcast? I've chatted with others in different areas who also had the same issues with the Sting broadcast last night, so it was not localized or something to do with my cable box.

How has Justin Thomas looked so far? Alderson has 3 points in 4 games and is a plus 3, looks good so far. Rogalski has been a rock so far, playing big PK and PP minutes and had a nice goal the other night... still early but they look good in the Soo.

Thomas has been playing on the 4th line and did so on both games on the weekend. He has shown a bit but really hasn't played like I would have expected for a player that we traded Alderson for. On the weekend he played on a line with Kujawinski (our 1st round pick) and Alberga most of the time. I don't recall him playing much PK.

It is hard to describe, he hasn't played poorly, but has done nothing really when on the ice to earn more. Alberga for instance has been getting additional ice time and has played well, making a case to play more. The way it appears is that Thomas will need to work harder to earn some additional ice time, and even if he plays well, he has plenty of competition for that ice time.

Galenchuk's Injury

From today's Observer:

Alex Galchenyuk will not be suiting up for the Sarnia Sting any time soon.

Galchenyuk's knee injury, which was once hoped to be only a short-term "tweak", is starting to sound much worse. In fact, under the best case scenario, it sounds as though he will be out until at least mid-November.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed that it might only be a month, or a month-and-a-half," admitted Sting coach/GM Jacques Beaulieu, after Saturday's 7-2 win over Sudbury.

"He's not doing anything for the next two weeks — no exercise an no walking on it," said Beaulieu, adding the team has "conflicting reports" from four different doctors on the severity of the injury to Galchenyuk's MCL (medial colateral ligament).

Galchenyuk is scheduled to visit London's Fowler clinic this week for an assessment.

He originally injured the knee in a preseason game against Windsor when he caught a rut in the ice.

The good news if there is any, is that the Fowler clinic is very highly respected - I believe that they have treated many pro atheletes successfully - Steve Yzerman for instance. While he will be missed, there is more than enough talent up front to be competitive and continue to improve as a team.

Hopefully the injury isn't too serious and he has a full recovery.

vs Sudbury

-Charlie reminds me of Doug Gilmour, not very big but plays in all types of situations & works his butt off

-goals will be no problem this year: Ludvig is the real deal & Yaky is Yaky.

-defense needs to tighten up,first half of the game was not pretty to watch from section 103

-Maxwell played well enough for the win but Sudbury won't be at the top of the league imo.

Conner Murphy was interviewed the other night between periods. I don't beleive he gave a specific date, but had stated he got rid of the crutches two weeks ago. He stated that the recovery was going well. I think current thinking is that he will be back some time in November.

Mark Glavin told me the following about Ritchie,

"His forearm was swollen to about twice its size earlier this week...under control now may just miss the weekend"

Not sure the reason behind the swelling.

Mid-November is likely the earliest that Galchenyuk is back but I have a feeling it could be much longer (December)

Rensfeldt has really picked up his play as of late. You can tell that he's adjusting to the North American game quickly. I love watching this big man skate around the ice - very good skater. Rensfeldt had 2 assists tonight (1st star too) and recorded 2 assists in his previous game as well.

The Sting switched up the lines and Rensfeldt is playing with Carnevale and Yakupov at the moment.

How's Boucher doing? Seems like he's off too a bit of a slow start with just two goals. Is he doing ok overall? Noticed he started out with Galchenyuk and Yakupov in preseason but since Galchenyuk went down the Sting have mixed up the lines. Who's he playing with at the moment?

Some general comments on last night's game against Oshawa. Nice overall effort.

- Maxwell played really well and made some big stops when it counted.Seems to be more relaxed and is not giving up as many rebounds as he did in the exhibition season. If he continues to play like this it will be hard not to start him. Could've been some big momentum shifts if Maxwell didn't slam the door.

- the defensive game is still a work in progress but looks to be improving. Team seemed way more interested in battling for the puck. Forwards are going to have to be more diligent covering for De Angelo when he rushes the puck. Led to a bunch of odd manned situations going the other way. My guess is that JB may limit the situations when De Angelo can go with the puck.

- best game so far for Kujawinski. He also seems to be more relaxed and is showing flashes of why he was picked 4th overall. Ditto for Rensfeldt. He's starting to look like a NHL pick.

- Boucher was absolutely snakebit last night but he's always in the right spot and he will get a lot of goals.

- the blown call by Celestin that wiped out the goal was a joke. He's never been a friend of the Sting.

- Oshawa did not look good. With the amount of talent on that team you'd expect a lot more. Windsor looked good against London last night and will beat Oshawa today if the Generals repeat last night's effort.

As Jwalk posted above (I also tweeted it last night too) but Boucher was extremely snakebit. He had at least 6-7 top notch scoring chances (a couple wide open nets). I have mixed feelings on Boucher so far. The kid is a pure shooter and has great instincts on where to be on the ice but he doesn`t have very good puck handling skills and seems to panic a bit when in possession of the puck. He definitely thrives when the puck is passed to him but doesnt impress me at all when carrying the puck.

Last night, I believe he was skating on a line with Sarault and Hottot. I think that was the 2nd line last night.

Maxwell had an extremely strong performance and kept Sarnia in the game when it was close with several huge saves (including a couple breakaways).

DeAngelo does like to pinch but I am impressed with his ability to come back hard when he does jump up in the rush. His skating ability is ELITE.

Kujawinski played a fantastic game (agree 100% with jwalk`s assessment). I actually turned to my wife last night and said, `Kujawinski has improved 200% since he first stepped on OHL ice.`` He really is showing more patience with the puck and seems to be in proper position most of the time.

Good showing for the Sting but I would love for this team to limit the numerous neutral zone turnovers they make game after game. Get the puck deep and retrieve it - the talent is there to do that.

I got some video (from my BB) of Carnevale`s Penalty Shot goal last night that barely trickled over the goal line.

Yeah I saw some of your tweets from last night and have looked at em for some of the other games aswell. At least Boucher is getting the opportunities to score, hopefully he'll be able to bury em in the forthcoming games.

Do you think they'll put the line of Boucher-Galchenyuk-Yakupov back together when Galchenyuk is back from his injury? Guess it's hard to say right now.

Really appreciate the other info aswell. I'm intrigued about boucher (and so are many other devils fans), I hope he and the Sting will do well this year.

Based on the Yakupov-Galchenyuk-Boucher success in pre-season I would fully expect the Sting to try out that line once again when everyone is healthy. There's always a chance that some other players develop chemistry while Gally's out and they don't mess with the chemistry but that line looked pretty dominant in exhibition play. They will get a chance once again.
