Shawn Matthias: O Messiah, Where art thou?

Seriously. We should really put out a bulletin at this point.

He was traded at the deadline and "recouped" a second in some good GMing. They are playing a hologram.

10/10 avi, would watch again.

Maybe I need to go to the next home game because the last time I went to a canucks game live I believe Mathias scored a hat trick against boston

Last year, I would have said I liked Matthias. Maybe would have said the same thing earlier this year.

The goals he scored have been nice. But, he is too much of a solo player, in my view. If someone gets him the puck in the right situation, he can take it to the net. If the play involves passing, such as a give and go, it dies on Matthias' stick.

In a series like this Calgary one, he could be a difference maker. In the first game Calgary was clearly targeting Burrows and Weber for some big hits. If Matthias would lay out some big hits of his own, it could draw some fire away from his teammates, not to mention upsetting Calgary's rhythm.

As long as he continues trying to play more of a skill game, his effectiveness will be minimal.

I can't believe he only has 6 points against western conference teams..

Actually, yes, I can.

Shouldn't it be 'Wherefore' Art Thou?

Where do you access this alternate dimension? What game is it?

Wherefore means 'why', not 'where'. Don't worry though, like nobody knows that. That Romeo and Juliet quote is probably the most misunderstood quote in literary history.

I already knew, though you could also twist it to mean: "Why are you a messiah?" I'm sure there will be some who'll feel that exact way.

Someone called him Raymond in a bigger body the other day.

Absolutely spot on, the guy has no balance to drive to the net and is the definition of perimeter, the Dorsett signing looks more and more meaningless by the day, same with weber tbh

100% this.

I feel sorry for the team signing him to a new contract. Decent numbers, but not a very good player to have on your team. Apart from that odd game.

Whoever signs him will pay him based on his numbers and those odd games. Will not end well.

The opposite of David Booth is a nice one. Matthias can't really do anything well except score goals, and obviously Booth...

We signed the guys for next year already, and his disappearance is why he's not one of them.

I hope you're right! I would love to see nothing more. He is the Con Smythe winner, and gets himself a HUGE contract in the offseason.

He plays like there is blood in the water when he has an empty net.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the time he plays like a replacement level player- waiver bait in other words.

18 goals is still 18 goals. It's a shame we couldn't give him Dorsett's or Sbisa's money.

Different needs. Maybe the team brass feels there is a replacement for him with one of the younger guys - Gaunce for example?

Seriously, Shawn Matthias is a zombie right now. Seems like he just isn't into the game.

Maybe he's just not quick enough to get to the puck? In a physical and a cerebral way.

We've seen him wheel when his head is in the game, he's just not initiating any contact and with his size, he needs to finish his checks and up the intensity. He should not be losing board battles to most Flames forwards.

Nah. Trading Matthias would have meant we were tanking.
