Darren Helm to NJ

Personally I believe he is easily in the top 5 for 3rd/4th line players. He does EVERYTHING expected of him with 150%. I know that he'll probably never leave Detroit. But what would it take?

For sure, but only if the +'s are Parise and Larsson.

Lol.

As much as this is a joke, it actually has some truth to it though:

Darren Helm's worth to Detroit is much more than what he's actually worth.

Not tradeable. If Detroit goes East next season, the last player I want to play against is Helm.

He won't be traded. Detroit values him highly and rightfully so.

I put in a sprinkler system for Darren's house in St. Andrews. Big ****ing house.

But yeah, he would never get traded. Way to valuable an asset to DET.

I wonder if a deal can be constructed around Helm+ for Tedenby?

No, probably not. Tedenby is expected to be a big part of the Devils' top 6 going forward, maybe even as soon as this season. I don't see him getting traded, unless it is as part of a package for a top pairing defenceman.

To think he's still only 24. He's making 1 million next year then he's RFA. Detroit has almost 7 million in cap space... so they'd trade him if you could make it worth their while, but I don't think he'd come cheap.

They've got a few wingers who also play center respectably... so I think he'd be available if a deal for a good top-4 d-man could be done.

The only ideas I have are completely insane... like Hudler + Ericsson(assuming he waives his "modified NTC") + Smith + 2012 1st rounder to Florida for Kulikov.

Florida fans should say no way, but it gives them a lot more depth. First rounder in next year's draft could go far, as well.

Detroit fans... I don't think they should consider this a hefty price. Lidstrom is out the door soon and they haven't got a guy on their team or in their system who's going to fill the void as much as a guy like Kulikov would.

Interesting, because I'd say Ovechkin or a healthy Crosby, personally. Helm is definitely right behind them though.

Well the only way Detroit moves Helm will be to adress a certain need. This could be the defense. Somewhere along Larsson+.

Smith is going to be a Stud. He is the closest thing we have in the system to "replacing Lidstrom"

Hes not getting traded for Kulikov. As good as Kulikov is Smith would have put up the same numbers in the NHL last year. Smith is a lock imo for a 35+ point NHL defenseman (and projects well into the 45+ range). His offensive skills are that good.

He has a mean streak and a body to boot (bigger than Kulikov). There is very little to say that Kulikov > Smith when they both reach 25. Stupid trade.

That being said switch Smith with one of our blue chip forward prospects and you have a deal. (Tartar, Pulk, Janrock, Nyquist)

i have to echo the sentiments in this thread. darren helm is too valuable as a 3rd/4th liner to be traded.

He's worth more to Detroit than he would fetch for them in a trade. Teams wouldn't be willing to fork up what it would take to get him out of there.

The quintessential bottom 6 player. No shot Detroit is trading him unless for some over payment the Devils would never consider.

Detroit wont trade Helm. However if New Jersey is interested in a center then Filppula could be available.

We're interested in a center, possibly interested in Filppula, but we're not interested in a package for Zajac.
