I vote we just resign Wellwood and put him on the third with Pavs and try Mcginn or Ferrireo on the 2nd with Couture and Clowe. Then DW can adjust the team in the middle of the season or at the end when it is more clear that teams are selling of their players for picks.

Obvuisly Pavelski talked Parise into signing a one year deal at 6 million so he could be traded to the Sharks and his contract would expire so he could sign at a low price.
Parise for Braun Sateri and 1st

C'mon people. Moving Pavelski to the 3rd line because Couture is having a breakout season is one thing.

Starting with him on the 3rd line on the off chance McGinn or Ferriero does the same is quite different.

Honestly the best thing we can hope for right now is that Weber isn't traded to Vancouver or Detroit. Best thing for the Sharks is to have him stay in Nashville (Preferably disenfranchised...).

That or trade for him

Vlasic, Doherty, 2012 1st, 2013 1st.

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Patrick Marleau ($6.900m) / Joe Thornton ($7.000m) / Joe Pavelski ($4.000m)
Ryane Clowe ($3.625m) / Logan Couture ($1.241m) / Martin Havlat ($5.000m)
Torrey Mitchell ($1.366m) / Michal Handzus ($2.500m) / Kyle Wellwood ($0.650m)
Jamie McGinn ($0.680m) / Andrew Desjardins ($0.540m) / Andrew Murray ($0.575m)
Benn Ferriero ($0.605m)

DEFENSEMEN
Shea Weber ($6.500m) / Brent Burns ($3.550m)
Douglas Murray ($2.500m) / Dan Boyle ($6.666m)
Jim Vandermeer ($1.000m) / Jason Demers ($1.250m)
/ Justin Braun ($0.875m)

GOALTENDERS
Antti Niemi ($3.800m) / Antero Niittymaki ($2.000m)

CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $545,000

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,370,001; BONUSES: $587,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $929,999

Mwahahah.

Oddly, we could almost afford that. 21 man roster + Niittymaki gone would give us about 3m to spend on Couture, + any potential cap raise as a bonus. Just a joke though, don't go nuts

I'm hoping for one of Weber/Suter moved out east and re-signed, and the other locked down for a few years.

Almost? We can definitely afford that. It's called moving/dumping Nitty and having Greiss as the backup. Signing Greiss gives the Sharks that flexibility for this year too. Then next season when Weber is RFA again you can deal him for tremendous return or let him get offer sheeted and take four firsts.

Let's make this a cup or bust year, like you've been advocating for this entire offseason.

(The real life issue, of course, is whether Nashville would take that return for Weber...even for a "too expensive for Nashville for 11-12" Weber, I'm guessing they can find better return)

PollakOnSharks 9:37am via Web MORE THAN A RUMOR: San Jose definitely interested in adding D Colin White now that Devils have bought out his contract.

Interesting? If it's a two-way deal, I'm all for it (no harm, no foul).

It would probably be a one-way. I wouldn't mind it since we know Vandy will probably miss some games due to his shot blocking ways, Colin White is a similiar player.

White played a lot of minutes in NJ, I can't see him signing here with the assumption that he'll be sharing minutes with Vandermeer and Braun (let alone the fact that is pretty much means Braun is back in the AHL).

It's possible, but it's also possible White is a replacement for a player DW is planning on trading, likely Vlasic or Murray based on skillset.

Vlasic, Ferriero and a 2013 1st to Nashville for Weber e4!

I know your joking, but that doesn't really make sense. Why sign White if you are already trading for Weber, still leaves you excess d-men.

I think its highly likely they are looking at moving Vlasic for a 3rd line scoring winger.

Strange to have two different Whites over two-seasons heh. Plus we have Patrick White

Yeah White could still be a top 6 on a crappier team, I doubt he signs here.

His numbers were still solid last year in NJ. He'd be top 6 on most teams, top 4 on some crappier teams even though he's past his prime.

Any ideas on potential deadline acquisitions of 3rd liners with 2nd line tweener ability?

Looking at the past, Sharks have a history of trading with the Canes. Tuomo Ruutu? He's more than a Tweener, and he's a FA at the end of the year. If the Canes are out of it and looking to gain some assets then it may be a fit.

Other ideas: Lee Stepniak - although I've heard the guy get crucified pretty bad by both Toronto and Phoenix after his initial hot streak when he joined them. Also, it would be an interdivision trade, which may not go so well.

Any other ideas for 3rd liners to be traded for?

Everyone will drool over the Hemsky's and Doan's during this trade deadline, but I'd be looking for deals on quality 3rd liners.

I'm interested in who some of you think are today's "Elite 3rd liners." Who are today's Maddens/Pahlsons?

I'm not sure what else makes sense though. The closest player in skillset we have to White is Vlasic. Why would DW even consider signing White unless he's planning to make room. You don't sign a top-4 defensive d-man when you don't have room for him. He's not going to open up negotiations under the pretense that "you have to fight for a spot". If he was going to do that, he'd just invite him to camp.

There is more to the story here.
