Dan Hamhuis

Hey guys

Dan Hamhuis impressed me last year in his rookie campaign... will be an even greater force next year? Or will he suffer from the sophmore jinx...

What kind of numbers do you see him putting up next year? Will he see 20+ minutes and/or PP time?

Thoughts?

i think mid-30s would be a fair prediction. Unless Timonen or Zidlicky goes down, he'll only be getting second PP time, and even less if Numminen is signed as rumored he might be. I think 10 goals, 25 assists would be a good prediction...and mostly coming even strength.

I think his numbers will mostly remain the same, except for possibly his +/- which should improve.

I hate to be the one to break to you guys that there probably won't be any NHL hockey in 04-05 but... there it is.

...though you guys have a fine pup in Hamhuis!

He didn't seem to play above his game last year, he steadily grew and learned and got better as the year went along. That being said, I guess anyone can have a soph. jinx, but it usually doesn't happen to players who continually progress in their game the previous season.

Speaking of the "sophomore jinx" or "slump" that we so often see....what do you think is the main cause or etiology of it?

I always thought that it was caused by opposing teams having that first year to get tape, learn a player, and begin to exploit his weaknesses in the 2nd year.

Thoughts?

i'd say it's partly that, and partly due to just simple human nature, in a sense that the young player may start to think *that wasn't as tough as i thought it'd be*, and he might start expecting the game to come to him instead of working and making himself go to the game..
