D= Young nearly superstar will likely be superstar (still a few kinks)
S= Stud defenseman (not superstar level)

Z has the best contract as he gets around the early retirement rule and has a 6M cap hit.
Zetterberg is not a superstar. People use that term so loosely, Crosby Malkin Ovechkin are superstars.
"Z" is on the outside looking in, sure he is a great two way forward. But Datsyuk is not even a superstar and he is better then zetterberg.

Doughty gets a lot of hype and it is well deserved. But seriously all of this Doughty drama needs to end. There is no way in hell Doughty gets traded for Suter and 4 1sts.

And lastly Suter is vastly under rated, no he is not as good as doughty. But Doughty is not worth Suter (potential top 5 d man this year) and 4 first round draft picks.

Top D are vastly growing:

Both Johnsons

Doughty is worth maybe one of these guys and 1 first. But some of them it is even, and other teams could make an excuse not to trade there star D. Doughty could easily be outshone any season in the future. He has a lot to prove to be the next Lidstrom, and IMO he will not be. The NHL has a lot of STARS not SUPERSTARS now. And no I am not saying all of these D are on Zetterbergs page, just that those teams could easily find a way for dealing for doughty not worth it.

Given the way this years draft is projecting, and so many top notch D are expected to come up I do not see why teams would trade one of there top D men and 2 firsts (which COULD develop into top pairing D men) for Doughty.

It's that if we are trading Suter and two firsts for up to $7.75m in salary I think there are better ideas than landing a single player and then helping Detroit replace Lidstrom.
I do agree with you, I was talking just player for player value - I keep forgetting the ridiculous 4 first rounders going to LAK.

Ok since I don't watch LA very often, what was Doughty's off season all about last year? Was it simply an offensive off season? Was he missing defensive assignments, too? What aspects of his game were "off"?

And no Doughty isnt better then Zetterberg or worth more then him at this point. Will he be one day...possibly even probably but not right now. Especially since Zetterberg is the best playoff performer in the league. Not to mention Zetterberg is signed to a lifetime deal for 6 million. Suter and Doughty both need to be resigned and will cost more then Zetterberg's 6 million per to do so.
Agreed about Zetterberg. And I'm willing to put money on the Wings taking a hard run at and eventually signing Suter next year as Lidstrom's replacement. There's no way Nashville will be able to afford Rinne, Weber and Suter.
