Not surprised, and personally, a second round pick is not much for a player of his caliber. The only thing that makes this trade even out is the salary that Prospal is making.....but if he is putting up 70 points (which he will on the Bolts).....it can be argued that he is worth the money even then. I can't fault Anaheim for moving him, but I think the Bolts will be glad they brought Vinny back into the fold.

Does this mean Stillman is gone??

Wow.. looks like the Ducks made out ok. I mean they started with nothing, got one year out of him and then traded him for a second rounder.

I think Prospal's return to the Bolts is going to equate with a return to form.

He'll score 30 goals this year, just you watch.

Who goes to the third line now? Lecavalier and St. Louis certainly won't. Same goes for Modin, Richards, and Prospal. Fedotenko earned his way to the second line. That means Stillman either goes to the third line or he's traded.

The Lightning walked away from the 3.9 million awarded Stillman.

Yeah. Wow. They overpaid him, got out of the playoffs. So basically they lost a ton of money and got a 2nd rounder.

I'm impressed.

Great move by the Lightning. They save themselves nearly $1.5 million and get a player of equal value (and a year younger) for only a second round pick.

Hey man, they got a draft pick! Any HF poster worth his salt knows that accumulating prospects and draft picks is the goal of any successful NHL franchise.

Woo hoo! Bruins are no longer the only team to walk away from an arbitration award!

Yeah, I don't get this from the Ducks' point of view. They got rid of an unhappy player after paying him a fat signing bonus, but that's about it.

Welcome back Vinny!! Bye Stillman! (I knew he was a journeyman, I just knew it)

This calls for a celebratory avatar once I get home!

Funny how $$$ is so often overlooked on these boards when considering player transactions.

Thanks for bringing us back to reality.

Really? Please pass the salt then. The goal of any successful NHL franchise is to win the Stanley Cup and to be profitable (or at least minimize lo$$ses.) End of story.

The goal of some on HF (must be those salty posters to whom you refer) is to collect shiny young hockey players. Winning is secondary, apparently.

That is the difference between why some here get most excited on draft day, others moreso when the Cup is raised at center ince in June.

Need to differentiate between the end (winning) and the means (propsects/draft picks).

(Or perhaps your post was intended to be sarcastic? )

Didn't see that one coming...

Good Move for Tampa Bay as they replace the inconsistant Stillmann with Prospal who will again round into form in Florida.

At least Anaheim got something back. Prospals value was low so they should be happy with the 2nd.

How much is Prospal making next year

I thought Prospal signed a 5year 30M deal with Anaheim last summer? It says on TSn thats he's signed for 2.5M next year. Can someone tell me whats the correct number and if i'm wrong on the 5/30M, who signed for that much last summer? Someone did and the player wasn't worth half that in my opinion. I was sure it was Prospal.

I think his deal was 4 years at $2.5M a year, but they gave him a $4M signing bonus.

I am fairly certain it was a 5 year, $20 million dollar deal

Not bad considering a lot of people said they were stuck with his salary.

That is his deal. The main reason this trade didn't happen at the trade deadline as it was rumored was that Anaheim wanted the Bolts to cover the $4M bonus. With it happening now, I'm wondering if Tampa did shell out some additional cash.

Too bad for Sykora, he had some nice chemistry with Prospal after they were paired together during the second half of the season.

Interim-Ducks GM Coates was quoted earlier in the week as wanting to trim another $4M from the payroll. Is Prospal's $2.5M and possible bonus cash from TB enough to satisfy Disney?

I think that the fact you got such a high pick suggests that Prospal's bonus wasn't covered.

Prospal
for
2nd rounder

sounds a lot more reasonable than

Prospal
for
2nd rounder, 4 million cash

I didn't mean to insinuate that the Bolts covered the whole bonus. Perhaps just a portion. My guess is around 1.5M to cover the remainder of the 4M that Coates wanted to cut.

EDIT: Prospal's contract is as follows:
5 years, 16.5 Million
1st year is 2.5 Million Salary + 4 Million Signing Bonus
Every year after that (4) is 2.5 Million Salary

I'm surprised you didn't catch that right away. The fact that he used that teacher emoticon is pretty much a dead giveaway that he was joking.

I guess we'll find out, but if we gave up even that, might as well pick up Stillman's award and let Prospal suffer, right?
