Ivan Hlinka is dead...

Died in a car crash. He is the former PITT coach, and the coach of the Czech Olympic team that won a gold.

Are there any more details on what happened? Alcohol, sleep, bad conditions or just simply a freak incident.

Really sad. Man the past year, all these deaths in hockey. Between that and its current situations {Bertuzzi, Labor, ratings} it just seems like someone put a curse on the sport.

please from the looks of things it is a dying sport especially in the u.s. it is very unpopular, but as long as guys like us ( me and you and everyone else on this board) and around the u.s continue tosupport the best sport on earth we could keep it around. if hocky ever dies i will watch lacrose the closest thing to hockey, and oh yeah, if there is a lock out this year it is going to lkill the sport money wise and fan wise a lockout in the hl wil be a very bad thing for the nhl, very bad.

Edge..

it only says that police are investigating and there's speculation that the truck had mechanical problems. Pretty tragic. I forget, did Jagr get along with Hlinka during his tenure with the Pens? I remember him being a pretty tough coach, but don't recall the relationship.

The had disputes about hockey, nothing personal. Personaly Jagr said he appreciates, honours him (as everybody in our small republic does). Sad for us Hlinka died .
RIP.

Tsn.ca had an article on the topic. Said Ivan was returning from a meeting with Jaromir near Prague, probably on the topic of his possible involvement with the Czech National team.
