The star ledger can go to he11 with their vanderbeek not responding bull. They can do like I just did go onto Pacer and plug names in, not one under bankruptcy proceedings...

The full statement:

“Today’s New York Post story is inaccurate. The notions that the Devils are facing bankruptcy or that “the Devils have told their banks to get lost” are patently untrue. The Devils value their relationship with their banks and are confident a refinancing will be completed shortly. As stated previously, ownership is close to finalizing an agreement that would lead to a buyout of Brick City’s share of the company. The organization is also pleased to report that new season ticket sales are up 130% over last year and last week’s on-sale for single game tickets were 260% above last year’s similar period. Finally, the start of training camp was incorrectly reported in the article as tomorrow, in fact, training camp starts on Friday for the rookies and Saturday for the veterans.”

Let's hope Mirtle learns his lesson about trusting the Post.

Can someone change the title of this thread now, I'm tired of looking at a NYPost claim on the front page.

"Devils debunk heinous NY Post story" sounds better.

Eat it Mirtle.

This doesn't sound too good, but I don't know how serious this is. Probably mostly because Brick City didn't want to pay stuff, which is probably why Parise signed 1 year and we saw all the roster moves we saw this offseason.

Shocking thats his only response. He spends the last few hours talking up the Devils financial situation only to get it thrown back in his face and thats all he has to say.

EDIT nevermind he apparently still thinks the Post story is true. what a flipping idiot.

I wouldn't think the Devils ever thought they'd pay that loan off. It's common for both the business and the bank to want a loan to be paid as interest only each month and continually refinanced. It's usually good for both sides, as long as the business stays viable.

Ya, that refinancing bit and reference to buying out Gilfillan is a bit dicey, but I'm not worried. The situation definitely isn't as dire as the Post made it out to be. Mirtle is an idiot if he still believes there's a story here.

If the loan is originally Vanderbeek and Gilfillan(+), then why wouldn't Vanderbeek want to refinance the loan when he is now the only one responsible for it?

Guys, I didn't write the Post story and I don't hate the Devils (or whatever the theory is). I tweet dozens of links every day, from MSM sources, presuming they're accurate. If you have an issue with that story, you should take it up with its author.

What I will say is that, often with these type of stories, it's very difficult to know what's true. Everyone denied the Coyotes and Thrashers were in extreme difficulty until it was completely obvious.

I don't know much about banking, but after what you guys said I feel better. It almost sounds like a positive thing.

Nice selective read of the article.

The NY Post is worthless rag, especially when they try to cover anything New Jersey related.
I have been reading the local newspapers since the mid 80's and graduated with a journalism degree (poor choice), the Post is the worse of the bunch by a wide margin.
Facts are not important to them and never have been, take what they report with a grain of salt.

Good to see the Devils retort the nonsense.

With all due respect, you often take a Pro-Canadian stance - something that a vocal majority of this site agree with. Unfortunately, a lot of Devils fans suffer from 'Mickey Mouse Syndrome'.

They find it hard to believe there is an explosive growth of hockey in NJ. Most don't understand the core of it either, and how it propels professional sports forward. For record, the amount of hockey rinks has skyrocketed in NJ from a couple handfuls a few decades ago to over 50 today.

To compare the NJ Devils situation - with it's known ownership infighting, political ties to convicted corrupt public officials, and so on - to the PHX and ATL issues is a gross misstatement and borders on being simply ignorant of the facts. There isn't something as simple as disinterested controlling ownership or an actual lack of funds here, and I honestly believe that.

I have personally publicly questioned how the relationship of the NJ Devils owning the arena and the team works in the books. The arena is run by Devils Arena Entertainment and the Devils Hockey club is a separate entity. Years of potential left-hand, right-hand money tricks might prove troublesome when a financial institution becomes involved like they seemingly have.
