Obvious choice. Good for him. Went to HS a few minutes from me.

Congrats to Callahan on this honour. I agree he was the best choice for this honour.

Dubinsky or Richards are just about the same.

I have to agree.

I don't see why some are making a big deal about Richards getting it. It isn't the first time a new player has gotten a letter in New York; Naslund got an "A" as soon as he got there a few years ago. I think it helped Richards that he was with Tortorella before but there's no reason to say he doesn't deserve it. Like I said before, Dubinsky doesn't have to have a letter to be a leader.

Sometimes people just complain for the sake of complaining I guess.

Or Capt. Like it's never been done before.

Congrats Ryan....

Edit: Ya, Richards brings a lot that most don't bring having an A.

Great choice, anyone but Richards is a win for NYR.

Actually Richards isn't really a leader. He can wear the A no problem and it's probably a good choice, but he's not exactly vocal, he leads by example on the ice and being such a respected player but he'd never be captain material or really considered a great leader.

My take on this.

Regarding the "talent" debate...I don't necessarily believe talent is all too relevant when discussing the captaincy of a team...what matters the most is a players ability to lead, carry his team, and affect the play. Callahan does all this things, rather efficiently, as well.

Letters are overrated. All a Captains purpose is to talk to referees. More then leadership you just need somebody with good communication skills(ie best not to give it to somebody who will start whining/mouthing off to the referees)

Eh, Richard himself has said he's not a really vocal guy and he does his "leading" in other ways.

true, you donīt need superstars to win....but it is good for the fans to see great plays that only superstars can make.

^^ Eh Callahan has provided those, he's scored some big goals for us.

Last season 4 goal game vs Philly late in the year is certainly a star moment.

Also that big OT win against Pittsburgh him and Dubinsky hooked up for the game winner.

Even as a rookie against the Debs in 08 who can forget his wraparound against Marty.

All that matters is that the man is a worker and is beloved by the fans in NY and his teammates as well.

It's weird to think that St. Louis already announced their 20th captain, and New York only has 26.
