Most Accurately Rated NHL Players.

Greeting, HFboards.

Many of you underrate players (IE, my team.)

Many of you overrate players (IE, your team.)

We shall now fix this problem.

When an electric thermometer gets along in years, it loses accuracy. You have to calibrate it to a known temperature. Usually, this is done by sticking the thermometer in a large bucket of ice, and setting it to 0.

We shall now re-calibrate all of your hockey thermometers. I shall serve the role of bucket of ice, providing a scientifically accurate benchmark for player comparison, and occasionally dousing the ridiculous dreams of fans who think their pathetic team will beat mine.

To that end, we must first compile a list of the most accurately rated players.

Not the most overrated.

Not the most underrated.

Players who are 100% rated at their skill level.

I would say that Shawn Thornton is probably the most accurately rated NHL player, followed up perhaps by Vladimir Sobodka.

HFboards, who do YOU think is the most accurately rated player in the NHL?

Crosby...

You're either the best, or you're not.

Hate the Pens but he's the best right now.

Umm, the most accurately rated player would be the one nobody really cares about.

From the Sharks I'd nominate the following:

Clowe - Solid 2nd line PF
Pavelski - 2nd line center, great defensively, clutch
Boyle - One of the 10-15 best defenseman in the league. Top 5 offensively, and slighty above average to average defensively.

Im not sure how you are expecting objectivity when your asking about how teams FANS rank players....

What does accurately rated even mean? What you seem to be looking for are players where a majority of HF members agree on their rankings, but that still our subjective opinion on the matter.

The only way i could think of where you would get unbiased results is through some type of statistical analysis where you used historical data for each player and created some type of algorithm

I would agree on Boyle for sure. Nobody would disagree with that. Clowe maybe not, I've seen people think he's just a glorified third liner.

I'd definitely disagree with Pavelski though.

When I was younger, my friends called me "hockey analysis robot with unbiased ranking software." It made picking teams for kickball take about 4 extra seconds, but that time investment easily paid for itself when it came to discussing hockey players / stats.

I'll bring the objectivity.

I think the amount of over-rating Jordan Staal and Under-rating Jordan Staal evens it out.

Nope. Every Devils fan who posted in the tread about him signing with the Rangers underrates him.

I'd say Holmstrom is a good choice. Most people know that he is arguably the best player directly in front of the goalie but sucks at just about everything else. Too many people assume he is diving though, when in fact, he just plain old sucks at skating.
