the team that missed the playoffs most years in a row gets the first pick in the draft. that seems like the fair way to do things

the 2005 draft will be under the new cba so any speculation would basically just be a guess...

if the season is lost this would be an issue they will have to resolve after agreeing to a new cba...they'd basically have to set up a one-time exception for dealing with the draft and any other factor effected by not having a season

keep in mind also that if the cba isn't signed by next june there won't even be a draft. so this situation assumes that the lockout lasts long enough to cancel the season but then would end before the draft...

any possibility that they might just skip the draft if the entire season is wiped out?

they would redo the lottery so washington wouldn't automatically get the top pick...and while they would most likely use last years standings there is nothing that says they have to use the same lottery criteria

depends when the lockout ends...the draft won't take place until the lockout ends, so if the lockout goes till sept 2005, then they won't be having a draft in june 2005...

they would then have to decide if they re-schedule the 2005 draft at a future date or do they combine the 2005 & 2006 drafts into a super drafts (unlikely)...different options that they will deal with when it becomes an issue.
