This draft is very deep and currently it reminds me of Avs 2008 draft where we had no 1st round picks, but two, 2nd rounds and took Gaunce and Delmas with them. I do hope Washington decides to take our 2nd in 2013 because I would rather have two 2nd rounders in a deep draft. For people who follow prospects I think it makes it much more interesting without a 1st round and think of players we can have in the 2nd round.

I went with winger, just because it is the biggest weakness in the system right now.

I really hope Andreas Athanasiou gets injured and falls in the rankings because he would be amazing on our team.

I picked winger but obviously, the strategy should always be BPA.

Campagna can play wing, he did in Sudbury at times this year.

I wouldn't mind taking him at 2nd.

EDIT: I'd LOVE to get Graham too. So talented.

I went with D-man, provided it's a defensive d-man. Not enough of them in the system. Winger needs some boosting up too, but I'm a D first kind of guy

I'm betting a center is the BPA and he's on the team in 2 years, so then we can trade Stastny for picks and prospects

I went D, need a couple of bruisers considering Elliott and Barrie are both a bit on the small side.

Getting a great D prospect is always nice, but if anything, with so many of them out there maybe a good forward will fall. I can see the Avs picking a talented forward that slipped like Hishon, but in the second round.

From a pure need standpoint, it's more important. They have Hejda signed for 4 years along with EJ. You would think at least one of Elliott, Barrie, Siemens, Gaunce, or Chouinard would develop into a decent top four, so that would be three spots taken care of, with the bottom three taken care of by free agency or trade, along with lesser prospects and possibly Quincey.

Up front on the wings, you never know what will happen with Jones and Gali in the next few years. Plus the eventually retirement of Hejduk, and the concussion boys Mueller and Hishon. They could use a highly skilled player up front in their system.

1) I went with goalie. I'd like to see a couple of great goaltending prospects so we don't run into these problems again.

2) I think it's way too early for this, and I think people (including myself) are making assumptions that everyone we have picked in the last 2 years are totally going to come through and perform at the NHL level.

3) Wingers seem to be the popular pick, but I'd love for the Avs to maintain a very strong deep prospect pool down the center of the ice for the next 10 years, and poach wingers from other teams via trade or free agency.

If we do keep our two 2nd rounders I would love to have at least 1 goaler with them.

Maybe Malcolm Subban with one of our 2nd round picks! See there are some great players that are going to be in the 2nd round.

He could easily be converted to wing, especially if the reports are correct that he could stand to work on his skating.

He has that character and work ethic the Avs covet though, and is Cameron's brother. I could definitely see the Avs taking him if he slips to the 2nd.

It would be great if he slips in Avs hands, but I doubt he'll be around #45, maybe if they trade their and Boston's 2nd to move up.

There's a few mock drafts out there.

http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2012
Has us taking Ryan Olsen & Matt Campagna in the 2nd round.

http://www.rantsports.com/mock-draft...ctober-update/
Has us taking Ryan Grimshaw & Dalton Thrower in the 2nd round.

One guy am looking at that will go around the top 60, is Jarrod Maidens. Played behind Joey Hishon and is a speedy playmaker that has 2nd line potential centre.

Potential great news for Avs fans as Sarnia Sting forward Alex Galchenyuk has a torn ACL and will miss the entire season.

He was expected to be a top 15 pick, but this could mean a big slide for him...maybe into the 2nd round

Thrower is a smooth skating, two way defender. Skates well, moves the puck well. He has really cleaned up some of his nasty defensive play from last year as he would make atleast one bonehead play a game, it seemed. Great improvement there as I had major concerns last year with his overall hockey sense.

To go along with his two way game, he's also becoming known as one of the best tough guys in the entire league.

Here's a video of him stepping up on a forward, laying the body and then standing up for himself.

Kind of weird how it works. If he does fall to the 2nd round he'll be a very early pick and I want the Avs to grab him, but if that's the case that we are a early 2nd round pick then our 1st would be early as well. Well we can always trade.

Also thanks for the info RS. Thrower would be kind of like a Trevor Dailey/Ryan Wilson type of player with better offensive capabilities?

There's a few guys am looking at in the 2nd round,

1. Matthew Campagna
2. Luca Ciampini
3. Taylor Burke
4. Dalton Thrower
5. Tom Wilson
6. Ryan Olsen
7. Troy Bourke
8. Jesse Graham
9. James Melindy
10. Brady Vail

HM
Brandon Leipsic
Zach Stepan
Timothy Bozon
Reid Gow

There's a few good goalers too that will be around our draft picks.

I would REALLY like to get Colton Sissons, but I see him as a late 1st--early 2nd.

Definitely. From all the mock drafts and rankings I've seen, as of now he's labeled as a mid to high 2nd rounder, where I see us. Reminds me of Joey Hishon, but more offensive than 2-way.
