I heard that Martindale left the game the other night with a hip flexor injury. I haven't seen any updates though; has anyone heard anything? How long is he going to be out for? I assume he's been invited to the main camp as well? thx.
Of course I'm no MD here but just wondering how much an increase in weight of a player may result in subsequent risk of injuries like a hip flexor.
Not saying it is involved but Martindale who is playing pretty big has gained 15-20lbs over the last year and depending on which report he gained that much in the offseason.
Just a laymans view here but I realize how much just 10lbs increase in weight impacts everything out on the ice from skating, acceleration, stability, etc. With every movement feeling different. You may not notice an increase in weight normally put throw on some skates and try to fly around and you notice it immediately.
I think hockey/skating more than anything is impacted by increases in weight. Not sure its best course of action to increase weight quickly in hockey. This strains adaptation and the ability of muscle groups to respond to the weight I would think.
I think we're at 49 contracts, so he might be a victim to the numbers game. I think he has until next summer though doesn't he?
Makes sense. Probably will ink him next year once UFAs get off the books and certain prospects outlive their welcome (I suspect Brule, Chorney, Plante, O'Marra, Vande Velde, Kytnar might not be with the organization for much longer.
