Nedved signed in next 72 hours?

From Spector's Hockey:

Quote:
OILERS AND NEDVED STILL NEGOTIATING.

EDMONTON SUN: Robin Brownlee reports the agent for Petr Nedved has the Oilers agreeing to offer a three year contract for his client and now both sides must hammer out the money issues. Both sides will spend the next 72 hours trying to make the numbers work. It's believed the Oilers have offered $6 million for the first two years.

Spector's Note: An bit of gossip out of the Czech Republic has Nedved and his new wife involved in a public argument about his possibly signing with Edmonton. Whether there's truth to this is unknown but it will likely further speculation that his personal life will factor heavily into where he signs.
Did anyone get the opportunity to read the paper? There was nothing on the Slam! website yet. I guess we will truly know the answer to this on Friday.

Canoe usually comes with its latest articles at around 11 am CET. Slam rarely updates till 2 pm. Same articles though.

That public fight was the fake photo that circulated last week---

Spector is right

According to Brownlee the Oilers and Barry have already agreed on adding the third year and now will try to come to terms on the money.

Lowe has returned from a vacation in BC and they plan to meet today, the reason Thursday was mentioned is that Lowe would like to get this done before he leaves for World Cup training camp. Brownlee did say it doesn't mean they would get his signature on a contract by then though.

Also Breeze and the Oilers have not started negotiations for Jason Smith but this is not because there is any animosity or indifference, it was because there were arbitration hearings. Now that they are complete they are expected to open talks shortly.

I am sure when you read the article you will all get the same impression. It is a matter of when and not if for Nedved.

I've learned to remain open minded but try not to get too excited until the contract is signed. But you're absolutely right - this does seem promising.

There is always the possibility that they can't come to terms or some other team suddenly offers the moon but I really think we will see Nedved in Oiler silks next year (whenever that is)

I also think that the fight pictures were garbage, how does anyone know they were fighting over him coming to the Oilers? Nice speculation but nothing more.

Obviously whatever disagreement he and his wife had is solved because it was the Nedved camp that wanted to add a third year!

Like I was saying when the pictures came out. I feel bad for the Nedved's having to have their fight in public become a gossip piece for fans and newspapers. Maybe Petr simply forgot his one month anniversary? I once made that error of judgement with my girlfriend and something similar to what we saw of the Nedved's resulted.

Since when is a monthly anniversary necessary? Sheesh. Once a year is enough - not to mention all the lousy holidays and cultural events that happen inbetween. (I'm not bitter still)

Even after having been married for only 4 years now, I certainly know that it doesn't take missing even a one month anniversary to set off an arguement.

As a side note, even after 4 years of marriage (and like 8 years of being together) I still get asked....'remember what today is?!?!' ...... my response: 'uhmmm, no?'..... her reply: 'it's the 8th anniversary of our first date!'

FIRST DATE!?!?! I can't even remember what I ate for lunch the day before, let alone an event that should be superceded by a wedding and birthday of our child!!! Women.... gotta love 'em.

Try being married to a woman with a near-photographic memory.

I can't get away with ANYTHING. When the interrogation starts, I may as well take my one phone call and get a lawyer in the room because I'm sharkbait if I don't.

I am a typical guy, I can't remember our wedding anniversairy but I have one very good skill - I can repeat - verbaitum - everything said in the last 30 seconds. This is especially usefull when I am watching hockey and my wife is going on and on about something. As long as I glance her way every now and then, I can pretty much enjoy the game.

It drives her crazy because she knows I am not listening.

And perhaps Nedved's annullment the day after?

You'd have to think at the very least he'll be spending a lot of nights on the living room couch if he signs a 3 year deal in Edmonton.

Or maybe his wife will model for perogies after all?

I don't think it is as big of a deal as the media is making it. He is always on the road either way, as is she. It is a part of the lifestyle. And let's face it the chance of her continuing her career for many more years is very slim, considering that models have even shorter careers than pro-athletes. Plus the fact that they were just married which could indicate that she is interested in settling down, having kids, buying a minivan etc.

Now I understand things could work better in a more urban city, but if Nedved doesn't get a job there she can't blame him. Nobody else really seemed to show any interest and a man's gotta eat. My gf and I both would rather live in Edmonton, but I don't have a job there, and the market isn't as good for what I do. Does she blame me? No.

If they can get him signed for 3 years at around 9.6M over the term, I for one would be very happy. Nedved would be the best goal scorer we've had since guerin, a guy that has a disappointing year when he doesn't get 30 goals instead of just 20. We've seen what happens when the Oilers go halfway (Dopita and Oates) it's time for a prime-time center to be a main cog in this team. Maybe they can get D-vo signed for 3 years at 2M per while they're at it.

You know Edmonton isn't much worse than Prague, if at all.

re

Yeah, Edmonton is trendy, we've got that huge mall and several McDonalds locations throughout the city. That should be enough.

Seriously though Edmonton isn't a 'trailer park' city. Am I the only one who gets completely confused when I hear people from Calgary (of all cities...?) say that?

Of course you know you could log on to tsn tommorow morning and it could read 'Nedved signs with LA Kings'

Given Petr's comments in this older Sun article, I don't think the issue is just a media creation.

I also know that Edmonton is no Prague. I love Edmonton, but please.

Having said that, if they do decide to come to Edmonton, we should all do our best to welcome Veronika. No, not like that you perverts!

im from edmonton, love edmonton, would take it over any city in canada (except montreal).... but lets get one thing straight..... edmonton, under no circumstances, is anywhere CLOSE to prague..... they arent even comparable

that being said..... i dont really think living in edmonton is SOO bad for a model..... sure, the clubs arent what they are in NY or LA, and the shopping isnt as good, but other than that i dont really see the difference to be honest, at least a difference that should actually *matter* to somebody..... because if your so worried about clubbing that it would cause you to not live somewhere because of it, i think you need to rethink your priorities.... i would also assume that being a model, she gets the vast majority of her clothes for free anyhow.... and lets say that she really detests edmonton for the lack of clubs and shopping, cant she just do these activities on her many trips to NY, LA or other big cities? one would think she would constantly be going to after parties and wrap parties and industry parties etc etc

i hope nedved signs here but i also hope it doesnt cause him any trouble at home, because no career decision is worth that
