HF Sharks Top Prospect Polls: 2011 edition - #5

sorry for the delay. been busy. Let's get going again though.

Click each prospect's rank card to be taken to the poll thread for the spot they earned.

After requiring a tiebreaker, Harri Sateri claims the #4 spot on the prospect list, making him the first player to slot in exactly the same place this year as he did last year. He also becomes the first European-born to place on the list.

Wrenn earned himself a vote last time out, so Sgarbossa remains the only player not to get any votes through the first 4 polls. That'll probably change now in light of the prospects tournament.

Added for this poll to fill the 2 empty spots are Cam MacIntyre and Matt Irwin

Eligible for addition to future polls and/or the "other" vote option (regardless of how you vote in the poll, pick one to add to the next poll)
Sena Acolatse
Colin Blackwell
Mike Connolly
Chris Crane
Drew Daniels
Justin Daniels
Dylan DeMelo
Cody Ferriero
Max Gaede
Curt Gogol
Thomas Heemskerk
Sean Kuraly
James Livingston
Tony Lucia
Isaac MacLeod
James Marcou
Lee Moffie
Matt Pelech
Brodie Reid
Justin Sefton
Tyson Sexsmith

Poll rules:
Eligibility: Prospects are eligible for the polls if they are 25 years of age or younger, have played less than 30 NHL games in their careers to this point, and are not expected to be regular parts of the NHL roster this year. Yes, this means that Thomas Greiss is back on the list after being off last year when he was projected as the backup goaltender prior to the Niemi signing.

1) each poll will have 14 player options, plus an "other" vote. If you vote for "other" you must indicate in a post who you are intending to put forth as your selection for it (and it must be a player found on the future poll eligibility list below). Any "other" votes that are not accompanied by a post indicating who you are voting for will be voided.

2) When you vote, you must also post and indicate who you wish to have added to the next poll. The player with the most nominations will be added to the next ranking spot's poll options.

3) Polls will be open for 48 hours. (I've found that during the summer, voting tends to peter out after a couple days, and 90% of the time the voters who miss out in two-day windows aren't usually enough to impact the result)

4) If after 30 votes have been cast, any prospect holds a 15 vote or greater lead on the next closest competitor, the poll will be closed early and the current front-runner will be declared the winner.

5) In the event a poll closes with a tie, a 24 hour tiebreak poll will be opened with only the tied players available as an option.

6) If any poll earns less than 30 votes over its active period, it will be the final poll of the project, and the only subsequent thread in the prospect ranking series will be a wrap thread. We're not going to do threads with polls decided by 20-25 people, that's just not really valid (well, less valid than the process already is)

Picked the Pirate. It would be kinda sad if our top 5 prospects are 3 defensemen and 2 goalies.

I'm intrigued by Viedensky, Sgarbossa, and JP. They will be my next 3 picks.

Add my boy Acolatse!

Clicked Nieto. Probably would have clicked Sgarbossa but went through the list too quickly.

Connolly is listed at 5'9 but how generous do you think that is? I hope he plays in the game tomorrow so I can see more of him but in that first game, he got pushed around pretty easily. He does have skills though but is it enough to offset the size factor?

My top 3:

Nick Petrecki, D, 6' 3", 214 lbs., born July 11, 1989
Team League GP G A Pts PIM
Worcester AHL 67 3 11 14 129

Matthew Nieto, LW, 5' 10", 181 lbs., born November 5, 1992
Team League GP G A Pts PIM
Boston University Hockey East (NCAA) 39 10 13 23 16

Marek Viedensky, C, 6' 3", 194 lbs., born August 18, 1990
Team League GP G A Pts PIM
Saskatoon WHL 63 36 52 88 52

Two questions...

What are the expectations like for Acolatse for the upcoming season? Is he expected to play exclusively at wing or defense or both positions?

I can't see him being anything but pure D from now on. AFAIK he was nothing but D last year as well and you don't do anything but **** up peoples' development by bouncing them back and forth.

Yeh , Mike Connolly really is 5'9" .. 210 said the he heard Connolly was 5'11" but I watched the college games during the season and he's short

.. if you look at U-tube there several clipsof him ( including after some really pretty goals) and when next to JAck Connolly #12- 5'8" , Mike #22 is about the same height . There are also clips of him against other players ( UMD Goalie ) and dmen who are 5'11" and 6' and they make Connolly look small

Mike Connolly is also listed in UMD is roster at 5'9" and on the Sharks rookie roster as 5'9".

I really like his play but SJ Sharks don't roster small players.. DW likes BIG .. look at the trades and signings this year , Handzuis, White, Vandemeer, even the trades for Havlet 6'2', 217#, Sheppard 6'1", Burns 6'5". This team's going to bigger than Boston's..

I think DW signed him for long term trade value

Add Sena ..

He drafted Nieto who is tiny as well. I think they might be re-evaluating their approach. They've drafted a bunch of small guys this year.
