Have always liked Winchester's game. Wouldn't be surprised to see him land a spot on the team.

Well, he's enormous which fits DW's offseason M.O.

Not sure if I'm happy with this being "it" for the offseason. I'd like to see some skill sent an invite yet for the bottom 6.

Didn't SJSharks2010 want this to happen?

I have wanted him on this squad since he was on Edmonton. Hope he makes the team, a real team player and adds a lot of grit which we lack every year.

Awesome, wanted him on the team, too.

I'm liking how the 4th line is taking shape - many good options there. Now need to just solidify the 3rd line winger spot.

4th line: McGinn - Desjardins - Winchester
Other options: Ferreiro, Mashinter, MacLaren, Murray, Guite, McCarthy

That is some tough competition for that line. If McGinn produces, maybe he gets some time on the 3rd line and Murray takes his spot on the 4th.

Nice!

That should replace the grit we lost out on with Wellwood.

And he's got a house waiting for him across the street from Santana Row

I'm not surprised to be honest. When I saw the article about him signing with a WC team (not Cancuks), I knew it would be us. I am not sure if Doug sees him as a third liner but he would be a fine fit on the 4th line. We got lots of depth and options there.

Thing is he didn't even sign (yet). Only a try-out, which he could have done with the Canucks.

Love it when players choose the Sharks like this. Reminds me of Manny.

always wanted to pick up Winchester. Nice! hopefully this doesnt end up like the wellwood 'signing', where my initial excitement is followed immediately by disappointment

Don't need him, don't want him, waste of a roster slot. Rather have Murray out there. Winchester is a freaking train wreck in his own zone and he's not going to intimidate anyone. You guys keep clinging to your 'enforcers protect our players' garbage, but it simply isn't true and hasn't been since the instigator rule.

That's a little harsh... I don't see a whole lot of competition or depth on the bottom line wing. It seems like a good call to give him a shot at the team. No guarantees anyway.

Really?

Mcginn, Desjardin, Murray, Guite, Ferriero, MacIntyre, Mashinter, McLaren, Wingels...

Seems to me like we are overloaded with 4th line players.

I don't personally dislike the guy, I'm sure he's nice, but we don't need him. Likely why he's only a try-out, DW isn't convinced either.

I don't like Winchester personally. Sort of ambivalent. But there isn't a lot of NHL level talent in those players you listed. McGinn and Ferriero are kind of the only known quality. The rest are totally up the air.

Only on HF can you get this type of reaction over a 4th liner getting a tryout.

It's just a try-out. No risk, high-reward.... well, some reward...

But why would we ice a guy who's terrible defensively on our 4th line? That makes no sense to me. He scores a few goals, but I guarantee the liability he created in his own zone was the cause of a lot more against.

You realistically get the option of icing 12 guys at forward per game, why would you waste one of those with a guy like Winchester? Put a guy out there you can rely on, not a thug.
