70 points for Eberle is really optimistic. Hall is the only one that I see getting anywhere near there, and I suspect anything between 55 and 65 points for him.

I'm not sure if the Jackets will reach the playoffs. The Nash-Carter tandem is nice, but they're going to need way more.

Ouch. Even though the Stars get more points than the Preds, they don't make the playoffs over them. That sucks.

i think the blues, blue jackets and wild are going to be serious playoff contenders this year. Too be honest i wouldnt be surprised if 2 or all 3 of these teams managed to squeek into the playoffs

Far less top to bottom spread in the west. Even Edmonton will improve this season.

Why would the Sharks drop to sixth? They're better this year than last year and somehow they lose 14 points from last year to this year? For a team that has won the division the last four years and never finished below 2nd in that time, I'm amazed at how many people have placed them so low in the standings.

Don't think that just because your team paid him top pairing money, he's gonna be some kind of Norris candidate. He's good, I can't argue that. But he didn't really impact any of the teams he played for in a positive standings perspective. He left Anaheim and the Ducks made the playoffs compared to when he was on the team and they missed. The Islanders played virtually the same when he left. Can't speak for Montreal but I'll bet that they're not going to miss him all that much. And your saying he's part of a 3 headed monster that will pull your team out of the Western conference cellar and into the upper tier of playoff teams? Forgive me while I laugh.

Let me remind people of a few things- Kesler may be out until November, Raymond is definitely out until November, there are questions flying around about the health of Henrik's back which was wonky all playoffs, Edler is still dealing with two broken fingers that he played through in the final, Ehrhoff is being replaced by Ballard and Malhotra is still a huge question mark in terms of effectiveness.

Granted, much of what I mention may not be as huge an issue as it seems but at the very least, this team should struggle out of the gate and will be very lucky to repeat as conference champs. The NW should be stronger this year as well.

This is coming from a die hard Canucks fan so take it for what it's worth. There are a large amount of question marks for this team coming off the shortest rest between seasons in franchise history. I'm not sure who will win the conference but I wouldn't put my money on the Canucks.

i see iginla getting more points the pat kane too, and rick nash, and still see the flames finishing lower.

Your point makes no sense at all. so if your star player iggy gets more points then Joe thornton, the flames should finish ahead of the sharks? Or iggy gets more points then eberle, there for the flames should finish ahead of the oilers?

Great point

As an Oilers fan, I still see the flames finishing ahead of the oilers, but not by nearly the same margin as they did last year. I think this is just another example of "one player doesn't make a team"; just look at how poor Columbus was back in the day with only Nash leading the way. Granted the flames of today are better than the blue jackets of the 00s, it's still not like they've got all the pieces to make a good attempt for a cup run, let alone make the playoffs.

Now if Iginla had an elite centre, on the other hand

Haha that's what I was thinking. Every August there needs to be a stickied thread for each conference and your predictions.

lol what

This would be the same Vinny Prospal who routinely has high scoring seasons even as an aging vet. He doesn't seem to do point-per-game seasons anymore, but we've got Nash and Carter to take care of that particular need.

Our secondary scorers also tend to get a bad rap, mostly because they've historically spent too much time having to be primary scorers. That shouldn't be the case anymore.

I have attempted to helpfully highlight where you've managed to contradict yourself. He helped prop up Montreal's season with Markov out, and the principal reasons they didn't keep him (so far as I've been able to ascertain) were 1) Markov's better overall (when healthy), 2) PK Subban's continued emergence, and 3) money.

He should at least help make our power play not suck, which has been one of our biggest weak points for the last four or five years.

We don't need him to be an all-around #1. We just need him to be a capable offensive guy who's at or better than half a point per game - that alone would make him the highest-scoring defenseman in CBJ history (no, seriously). If he plays OK defensively, that's a special bonus.
