Oilers 2, Jets 0: Hot Bunz

Discuss....

2nd star for me is easily Fedun. 3rd star... maybe Pitlick?

Hope Martindale is ok though, he was really dominant that first period.

Sloppy game by both teams. Bunz won it.

Fedun was rad also. Great game, and he knows when and when not to jump up in the rush. Good offensive instincts (in a rookie tourny).

Tyler reminded me Carey Price about 5 yrs ago. Be nice to see him get a start or two in the pre season and see if he can keep it going.

OP, you're right. Fedun had an excellent game. He certainly can skate and seems to think the game on a level his academic background would suggest. Good stretch passes and solid defensive play as well. He's one to track this season in OKC for sure.

RNH was a big meh.

Nothing to worry about though. Hall had his meh games also.

Every minute I watch Marty Gernat play, the bigger a fan I become.

Team seemed to lose steam after the Martindale injury.

I agree with others saying this was a pretty boring game .

I may be seeing what I want to see , but it seems to me that the Oilers passing game has been excellent so far . In short , mixed up tournaments like this we can expect to see a lot of bad passing but the Oilers have been breaking out of their zone with authority and moving the puck around on the PP crisply and effectively . I wouldn't say the same for either the Jets tonight or the whale on the weekend.

As much as I hated Garrett , that broadcast was vastly superior to the game tonight . If anything its more important to identify the player with the puck in a rookie tourney because fans aren't totally familiar with numbers and its hard to pick out who is doing what sometimes . Brutal fail by the broadcast crew tonight in this regard.

He was for parts of the game, but in the first 10 minutes or so, he made some sublime plays.

Scheifle is a talent.

Bunz kept it tight and let nothing squeeze through. Excellent game!

RNH was pretty meh for me.

I hope Oilers ice their best lines tomorrow so that we can kill the Flames young squad.

Bunz
Played a very good game. Hope he continues his steady play. Definitely was the difference maker tonight.

RNH
Had a quiet game, but created chances. Despite not making a huge impact on the score sheet, I liked the fact he was very active defensively

Hamilton
Wasn't a factor in this game but it was nice that Nelson has Pittlick - Nugent-Hopkins - Hamilton line together. When they were out, they dominated the play.

Pittlick
I don't think he registered a point but you can tell, this kid can play. Solid all around game. Fast for a big guy and a likes to use his body. His release is great as well, though the one part of his game I see as a fault at this point is the use of his line mates. He's not using them effectively. Good individual play.

Davidson and Blaine
Both had quiet games. Maybe it was nerves but they didn't look like they were making a push to getting contracts. Its just one game but not impressed.

Martindale
Too bad he got injured but once again he looked good. Made a couple of really good plays in his own end to keep the Jets at bay. He also looked good on the forecheck. These past two games have been ok. Against the Canucks he had a good two period but looked invisible towards the end. Would like to see consistency in his game.

Pelss, Reider and Raijala
All three had quiet nights. Other than the Reider cross bar shot he was very invisible. Pelss was the best out of the three.

Gernat
Is it a Slovak thing to have big skinny defensemen with active sticks? Looked great, but needs to gain weight. Good hit and a wicked shot from the point. Never looked out of position though I think he played with Fedun so it was easier. Excited to see what he can bring to the Edmonton Ice this year.

Fedun
Had another solid game, though I wasn't impressed with his play during these games as I was watching Petry. Cheering for the local kid but he's got a long way to go to make the big club. I think he's already better then Chorney though.

Overall nice outing by the young guns for the Oilers.

I was most impressed that Bunz stayed firm while dealing with so many point blank slaps .

Bunz was a pretty good puck handler out there, and I was really impressed with his glove. I hope he keeps tracking well, he could look great in December wearing the Maple leaf.

Give him a preseason game!
