[WSH/LA] Doughty, Let's adjust value for a mutually beneficial trade

Drew Doughty

Mike Green

Evgeny Kuznetsov

Washington 2012 (WSH) First Round Pick

Washington gets a franchise two-way defenseman

Los Angeles gets an offensive defenseman capable of 70+ points, Washington's top prospect, and the Caps's first round pick (not Colorado's)

Kings take this and run, Caps probably pass.

Kings might do this, although their defense takes a pretty big hit (defensively). That means they have Green and Johnson on their top two pairs, putting more pressure on Mitchell and Scuderi.

Green who will probably bounce back, Kuznetsov who will be a stud very soon, and a first round pick, that is definitely overpayment and I seriously doubt the Caps would even offer that.

This actually seems like really fair value. Good proposal.

Honestly a decent proposal. Be even better if LA could find a team to flip that 1st too to pick up an upgrade for their forward ranks. Is Kuznetsov able to play this year? Is he ready?

Doughty is already a force at pro level and with room grow. Those pieces are nice, but a Doughty does not come around very often. Kid could lead on both sides of ice, even on big stages at such a young age.

Seems OBVIOUS that this would hinge upon the Caps being able to talk terms with Doughty and his agent.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat if I was the Caps. Green is a year removed from being a PPG d-man who isn't as terrible defensively as most of HFBoards think he is.

EDIT: Again though, I think I'd take out the 1st and just send Carlson/Green + Kuznetsov

Washington wants to do this why? Green and Doughty are pretty equal in my eyes. Green still has a $5.25 contract year left. Who knows where in the stratosphere Doughty has his sights. Then to make it worse adding Kuznetsov and Washington's 1st round pick? Way too much methinks

While the offer is fair and nothing to scoff at, I think Doughty's overall play and impact to the team is more critical than the offense that Mike Green provides.

Green is probably the best offensive defenseman in the NHL at this point, but I think as Doughty matures physically and mentally and gains more experience, he wouldn't have much of a challenge reaching similar numbers while also becoming a dominant force all over the ice. He's on the verge of taking that next step. I don't see Green getting much better at this point in his career.

This is a good deal for both teams.

The caps really aren't giving up that much.

Dumping a forward and a late first rounder to upgrade at D would be worth it.

LA adds depth in two positions while only slightly downgrading at D.
