I would like to see how the rankings of the Kings top 20 prospects would look after this game

Anyone else think Gibson needs to start tomorrow to give him the chance to prove this was a fluke? I'd be all for it cause his confidence seems to be nil right now with that last goal...

My major complaint with these kids so far is they take WAY too many penalties. Instead of battling hard but knowing when to back off, they just panic and take the penalty.

Yes. I'm not going to judge Gibson on this period. I expect him to be much better as the rest of the team.

How is Nolan looking? I was a little shocked to see him on the first line. Has he been working on his offense?

Yes. It's not like a rookie pre-season game means anything.

He's looking pretty good both in the offensive and defensive zones. He cycles the puck well and is strong on his skates. I'm pleasantly surprised by how he's stepped up.

Nolan has been active in this game, he seems to be more Clifford than Westgarth as far as offense goes which is a bit of a surprise. He hasn't been great on the offensive side of things but seems to be playing the same role King does on the first line in Manchester. He's more the muscle on that line than the skill and he has been fairly consistent in bringing that aspect of his game tonight.

Or what King's Pawn said...

Coyotes won 8-7. Gibson gave up 5 goals in the third.

The thing with Gibson is that he didn't have a lot of fundamentals coming into even the prospect camp back in July. He has quickness and focus to his game, but this is probably the first time he's had a chance to implement some of the fundamentals to a "serious" in game situation.

He needs to develop some good habits. It is fairly hard to do it against players that range from junior skill to AHL skill. The speed of the game is faster, so my guess is that his body isn't catching up with his brain yet.

But at the same time, it's also why I have him fairly low on my ranking list, even before this showing. He has potential, but he's a very risky and raw player.

Of course he's going to stand up for his teammate. Gibson will probably say that he needed to be better. Everybody stepped off the gas in the third and it bit them in the ass. It's always a good lesson for players.

Kaunisto, Jones, Kozun, Muzzin, and Nolan are all from Manchester. I think the rest have < 1 year of professional experience.

Young, very raw goaltender, fairly high draft pick, first real test of his very young career.... The thing with Gibson is that in the few times I've seen him he does have all the tools he needs to be great, problem is he doesn't know his left foot from his right foot right now and lacks confidence. He could probably be a solid ECHL starter right now in his career but he still sees him self as a backup goalie in the CHL and it's more a matter of him trying to overthink and overplay things. He's expecting the insane flip pass because he's in an NHL camp and he ends up giving up the simple low short side shot because he's playing for the big save. I see it as just a confidence issue which is fine because once he learns that he can play at this level and that he belongs here (easier said than done) he'll be fine... Good thing is he will probably end up as the starter in Chicoutimi and the starter for the Finnish WJC team so the confidence will come. My little brother struggled with this same thing for a number of years and once he found his game, he turned into a very good goaltender, but it took him years to realize and harness 100% of his potential...
