Pegula is really using the signing bonus to his advantage. Players and agents understand the present value of money.

Wow they got him for so cheap, this deal will be really good for Buffalo as Myers is the type of D-man you build your team around, good job Buffalo.

Absolute steal. Great cap hit for the first year of it, will look silly down the road.

So Myers gets $12M in Year 1, followed by years of $6M, $5M, $5M, $4M, $3.5M, $3M.

So that mean in term of actual salary, this year alone, Myers and Ehrhoff both get $10 millions in signing bonus. Jeez, Pegula must really have a deep pocket.

Great deal for Buffalo. I'm happy to see the ownership spending the money.

It's one of the assets they have right now -- his willingness to utilize ready cash.

for a 21 year old who will be an RFA for the next 5 years? It's a million more then the Weber contract.

I think Myers gets his signing bonus on July 1, 2012. Ehrhoff already got an $8m signing bonus on 7/1/11, and gets another $5m on 7/1/12. Who knows how they'll structure Myers' signing bonus. Like Ehrhoff, it might be spread out over two years.

If Myers keep developing, this will be a good deal.

Terry is willing to take the hit on the early signing bonus in order to make the deal more cap friendly for the team. He's a great owner to have.

In a few years a $5M to 4M dollar salary (w/ a paltry $5.5M dollar cap hit) for a perennial Norris trophy candidate and Buffalo will be laughing at a such a steal!

5.5M for Myers is a little steep, at least right now. The structure of the deal is ridiculous though. More fuel for Bettman's fire to restructure the CBA to make it so that the cap hit of the contract = yearly salary.

As happy as I am about the Myers deal - I completely agree with you about contract structures. Having been on both sides of the fence as a Sabres fan, its not fair. I agree - cap hits should just equal the salary each year.

But I would also say $5.5m is not steep. Its a good deal now, and will be a complete steal in the future. The guy does everything.

Those are some deep pockets with all of that front loaded money to Myers and Erhoff.

Wow, another $10M signing bonus.

Well it's a great asset to be able to utilize for the Sabres.

What a steal. Even if Myers stays at 50 points/ great defensive/physical play then it's a great deal... If Myers progresses even more then it's a robbery... Now Pegula extend Ennis!

TVM means it continues to get sweeter as time goes on, especially if the cap continues to increase.
