The only thing I'd worry about is whether getting a ****load of money at one would go to a young player's head, but Myers doesn't seem like that kind of person to me.
Great deal, now get Ennis inked and let the good times roll
You ARE pretty and glamorous and sexy and bright. And I pity any girl who isn't you tonight.
Excellent show, front office. One less thing for the players to worry about during the course of the season. Sabres are now clearly committed to their players.
Youre going to make my mascara run... (right? That happens when we cry?)
It signifies, yet again, that there is an honest commitment to winning. It shows we learned a bit from mistakes of the past, and indicates that we are working to identify and maintain key components.
TSN is reporting the deal is worth $38.5 million. Myers will make $12 million, including a $10 million signing bonus, in the first year of the deal (2012-13). The remain salaries, according to TSN, are $6 million in 2013-14, $5 million in '14-15 and '15-16, followed by $4 million, $3.5 million and $3 million. The annual salary cap hit is $5.5 million
Buffalo Sabres defenceman Tyler Myers agreed to terms on a seven-year, 38.5 million contract extension on Thursday.
The contract includes a $10 million signing bonus on July 1, 2012, the first day of the new contract. Myers will be paid $2 million in the first year of the deal, followed by $6 million in the second year before declining annually to $3 million in the final year.
Wow.....
$2M at age 22,
$6M at age 23,
$5M at age 24,
$5M at age 25,
$4M at age 26,
$3.5M at age 27
$3M at age 28
Considering that the prevailing theory is that most NHL defensemen reach their primes at age 26 - 27, having a franchise defenseman at a salary of $3.5M - $4M is amazing.
I know that cap hit is more important but still....
Great to see young guys take what will likely be less money in the long-run just to ensure they'll still be in Buffalo. It's hard to believe he won't be worth more than he's making 2-3 years into this deal, absolutely love it.
Wow, those terms are sweet! Slap the "C" on that sweater...
Not yet. I say let one of the Rochester core get it right now, and then when Myers gets his next contract and those guys are all gone he will be ready to take it. Let him worry about becoming the elitest D-man in the league without the added pressure of the C.

Don't like the signing bonus, but like the cap hit and length.
He'll be tied for the highest paid player in the league next season.
Also, Pegula will be writing four checks worth a total of $20.75m altogether next July 1st.

Yeah, the signing bonus is kinda crazy, but maybe/probably necessary to sign him to a lower/longer caphit/term.

Remember what Pegula said about the gas wells......

He's 21, playing for a coach who trusts him implicitly with loads of ice time and an owner who wants him to stay a long time, and will have the chance to play at least for the next 2 seasons with his favorite NHL player.
