Also, not sure what this thread has to do with the Leafs, looks like PatientlyWaiting started another pointless flame war. Bit of advice for Leafs fans, put him on ignore.

Purely hypothetical situation here, but regarding the Isles policy, lets say that after training camp starts he is not signed. Then a few days later he says he's willing to play for the league minimum, but the Isles refuse to sign him because of their policy. Is there anything Bailey can do? Once again purely hypothetical.

if bailey has a problem with the isles policy he can sign with another team and hope the isles dont exercise their right to match.

that is if any other team is even interested in him at his demanded value.

It makes me sad to think of what Milbury & Wang have done to this team.

You cant do an offer-sheet. The Islanders already made a qualifying offer and he declined it.

Don't even know where to start. This is a long standing policy that Sean Bergenheim already tested. He played a year in the SEL when he lost. Fair warning and firm policy is as classy as you can get. The isles have to protect themselves against agents and money-hungry players alike.

As for the other part of your post, players are assets. They can be traded without their consent, suspended, demoted, relegated to the bleachers all against their will. It's money and asset management. But this is adult stuff. It gets confusing.

Bergenheim's case says no but I suppose exceptions can always be made. But the policy's in place exactly for these sorts of situations. I'd bet Wang would play hardball.

I often wonder how good Bailey would be right now if he spent his last season in the OHL and then a year in the AHL like Couture did. Last year looked promising early but it didn't stay that way. I'd be surprised if a deal doesn't get done, what type of leverage does Bailey have?

None and never forget that it's Charles Wang's way or the highway...there's a reason why he's been nicknamed "Emperor Wang" and "Attila The Hun".

Not much to be honest. While the hope is he comes back this year and improves from last season, you could make an argument that you can easily go out and replace his 28 points from last year.

I just hope the Islanders offer him a reasonable 1 year deal(say 1M dollars) if they can't agree to any longer terms ones, instead of trying to play hardball.

He's signed for $2.1M, two years according to Katie Strang.

Deadlines = productive parties.

Great deal for both, Isles get him at a fair price and Bailey gets a couple more years to develop on a team that all of a sudden can shelter him with some depth to keep the pressure off.

See how it is done Mr. Turris?

He was probably pissed after they demoted him to the AHL. Maybe he even asked for a trade.

In the end, he finally came to his senses.

It wouldn't have been a disaster if Bailey went to play in Europe for a year, but it wouldn't have been beneficial to either party.

It's nice to see that the core will be whole again tomorrow at 7AM for physicals and pictures.

that would be grossly over paying bailey. he had a great two week stretch to start last season, thats it. the boy has shown little to no improvment from his rookie year. in all honesty, i dont think hes worth the league minimum right now.
in no way do i blame bailey for his lack of success, he was put in a ****** position as soon as garth drafted him.

Bailey accepted the demotion and was quite positive about it. He knew he wasn't playing well and would benefit from the time in Bridgeport (where he dominated). If there is one thing notable thing about Josh, he's a team player, and "gets it."

he's getting 350k more than I'd would have paid him, but I do like that they went 2 years on him. it gives him some stability & lets him just focus on getting better.

It will also be very good for Josh to play with consistent linemates next year. Comeau & either Rolston or Nino will make up a 3rd line where everyones skills work very well off eachother. I can see him going 20-30-50 this year.
