In the age of Kovalchuk contracts, 5 years is a short term deal lol

Another RFA down. Very fair contract for Schenn. Good for the Leafs.

Originally I was thinking Burke would keep Schenn's deal to ~$3M. Then as things dragged I got the feeling he might end up with Marc Staal money (~$4M). So it would seem then with the cap hit being somewhere in the middle that this deal is quite fair for both sides. However, considering its a 5Y term, at that AAV, I think mgmt comes out ahead in this negotiation.

Good deal for the Leafs, if he improves more it could be a steal.

Very nice contract for a player that only going to get better and better..
3.5 for next year is a bit high but looking at it for 5years sound perfect for the team and the player.

I'm very happy that Luke Schenn has finally been re-signed by the Leafs. As for the contract itself, I like the term, but I don't like the financial aspect of it. I think it's too high for a young defensive defenceman who hasn't really done a lot yet.

Maybe sometime down the road he'll become worthy of such a contract, but for now, it's too much.

Please note that I'm not trying to single out any one particular player. I think most, if not all, NHL'ers are overpaid (with some being more overpaid than others). I guess that's the norm when it comes to pro sports.. unfortunately.

I take offense to that. I often attend the church of Ilya Kovalchuk of latter day Saints.

Great signing. Once again... Doughty can stuff that in his pipe and smoke it!

Yes, doughty is better than Schenn... but is he more valueable than Schenn that he should be getting paid 3.5-4M more per year than Schenn? I don't think so.

If he's got half a brain he'll go back and accept that previous offer. If he sits out next year the team isn't going to go as far as it should and the fans and media are just going to blame him for all of it.

Surprised a d-man that really hasn't accomplised anything got that much. He's gonna have to improve a lot to be worth that contract.I guess the reason ithe price was so high was because of the length.

do you actually watch him? he's going to be well worth that deal by the end of the season and in 2 years it will be seen as a bargin which will be the 2nd contract Burke has signed this offseason that will look like a bargin Reimer being the first.

21 year old with 3 years of experience, can play well in a high pressure market, and a league leader in hits. On track to become an elite shutdown defender.
